6 miles in 37:30 + mile swim in 36
Decided to change things up a little and see how long I could last with the treadmill set to 6:15 miles. The answer was 6 miles. Mile swim afterward. I felt so awkward in the water. I had zero rhythm and struggled the entire time. Finish in 36 minutes. Agonizing calf cramp as I exited the pool. First swim in almost a year. I can barely move my arms now.

nice workdurdencommatyler wrote:Brooklyn Half went really well. Much better than I expected. I said I'd be happy with a 10:15 pace, but that I really hoped to do 10. I ended up with a 9:20 pace!
Felt great. Pizza and beer after. Now I'm gonna fucking nap.

Re: The Work-Out Thread
just saw an orthopedic. he said its the IT band. suggested PT, which i probably wont have time for. It comes and goes so quickly, i will try to just stretch better at this point.BDB wrote:i think the IT band pain is usually higher, at or above the outer knee right? The pain i have is slightly below the knee.turned2black wrote:It could be Iliotibial band syndrome, which can be treated. I have friends that say a compression wrap and a foam roller before and after exercising works wonders.Charlie wrote:i get this often. to where running daily or a few times a week is out of the question. its fine during, and even afterwards. but the next day is a different fucking story.BDB wrote:god damn outer/lower knee pain after a 5.5 mi run yesterday. i can barely walk. god damn it.
any ideas?

Stretch the shit out of it and grab one of those compression wraps.BDB wrote:just saw an orthopedic. he said its the IT band. suggested PT, which i probably wont have time for. It comes and goes so quickly, i will try to just stretch better at this point.
Also, if you are in "motion control" shoes, I would consider ditching them. They could be forcing your knees (and legs) into unnatural positions.

i would definitely do physical therapy too. Strengthen your quads, calfs and hammies to help take some of the pressure and impact off the knee

Most sporting goods stores carry them. I have also seen them in CVS.
IT band wraps provide targeted compression, stabilizing the Iliotibial tract and it absorbs stress to the area and reduces friction and rubbing of the femoral condyle.

FYI, when I had knee problems, I ran in Brooks Beasts.

10 miles in 70 minutes
11-hour workday, then punched the clock on the treadmill. Not great, but also not a total struggle. No sprint finish. 30 minutes in the jam-packed sauna afterwards. At about 20 minutes in, noticed my testicles had been hanging out of my 1970s style running shorts. Balltastic.

4.3 mi in 35:23. That is a fast pace for me.
First time i ran at night since last summer. there is something more cleansing about running at 8pm on a beautiful early summer night.

I'll be honest I was working out pretty much everyday for a while but now I bet it's been a week without doing anything

Re: The Work-Out Thread
Was on a pretty good stretch there going to the gym every other day. I missed about a week and a half when I was sick but I'm gradually getting back like I was. Interesting that my upper body seems to be recovering quicker than my legs. I've been slack about getting back on the treadmill though. Might go just for cardio tonight after my closing.

Snow and rainy last week and dealing with some personal issues. Then had a friend in from the Big APple over the weekend, then started the week off with a horrible sinus infection/head cold. SLept like ass last night. God, i hope this gets better soon cause I need to crank out some mileage on the heel toe express.
