Start with his first album and work your way through. No two albums are alike.

Beck ripped off the "field recording" aspects of "Trout Mask Replica" a lot in his early days.

I'm unclear how a singer from a band that has outsold STP by quite a bit ends up spending a ton of time as the guest vocalist for that band. It'd be like if Ed had spent all of 1999-2001 touring as the guest vocalist for...some band between Tears for Fears and Def Leppard, in size.

A big part of Linkin Park's audience is now embarrassed that they ever listened to them, though.

The Doors were an excellent band.

Great songs, great playing.

I agree, but they have a very distinctive sound, which can either be perceived as an advantage or an albatross, like with Akka Dakka.

Generally I agree with this.

I did however quite get into LA Woman for about a fortnight a year or so ago.
Glad someone else said this first. Was worried I might get voted off the island for being too earnest, but yes -- LA Woman was a Doors conversion album for me, too.

Yeah, I don't know why it became so cool / hip to hate the Doors. They're a pretty tight band, and Robby Krieger is easily one of the most underrated rock guitarist out there.

Why did this backlash start? When I was growing up, the Doors were up there with The Who, Beatles, Stones, Hendrix, etc... as being the best of the best of classic rock.

If anything, The Doors seemed to appeal to the younger crowd at the time (80's / early 90's) more than any of the other bands. You could see them referenced in movies like Lost Boys and The Breakfast Club. Somewhere in the late 90's / early 2000's, it became cool to hate them. I don't get it.

They were one of my first loves, and I've since moved on, but I'll aways have a soft spot for them.

Some of my favorites:

Break On Through
Soul Kitchen
Strange Days
People Are Strange
I Can't See Your Face In My Mind
My Eyes Have Seen You
Not To Touch The Earth
Five To One
Wild Child
Shaman's Blues
Wishful Sinful
Roadhouse Blues
Peace Frog
Waiting For The Sun
Maggie M'Gill
Been Down So Long
The Changeling
Love Her Madly
Riders On The Storm
LA Woman
L'america

You can't go wrong with the albums, 'Strange Days', 'Morrison Hotel' and 'LA Woman'.

I'm thinking this probably has something to do with it. This phenomenon probably reached a fever pitch when Oliver Stone's movie came out.

Ah, that makes sense. But man, it's like an overkill on the backlash. The movie was over 20 years ago. Can we like them again, but this time tone it down a notch?

I figured you guys knew that. That's why there was a huge Doors revival in the early 90's. That movie was huge. At the time there was a double CD "best of" set that was selling insane amounts of copies. Same thing with Led Zeppelin when that 4-CD set came out. Everybody had it.
