I'm sorry all you Doors haters, but I love this song:
I want to be a warm and friendly person
But I don't know how to do it
But I don't know how to do it

Always enjoyed the Doors. I think their distinctive sound is a big reason that drives people's dislike towards them. A sound like that can become derivative (e.g. The Strokes)

The second most fun I ever had playing a show was a Doors Tribute at the Fineline in Downtown Minneapolis. Entire place was packed (no we didnt dress up like them) and we got to play a few songs. I can kind of see why people do cover bands due to shows like that. We played Unknown Soldier, People are strange, Peace Frog, break on through

I don't even remember that bit but this seems like an appropriate moment to once again mention that I hate Almost Famous SO MUCH.BurtReynolds wrote:I think their popularity cratered with Lester Bangs saying they sucked in Almost Famous.

And, yes, The Doors were a great band.

The stupid aspects of rock music mythology are the best ones!
I hate Crowe's movies, but PSH is amazing as always. Every scene he's in is solid gold.

I feel as though it presents rock music as a kind of refuge of perpetual adoloscence for juvenile men (and relegates women to the role of fawning supporter). Perhaps that's not entirely inaccurate for the time portrayed but I feel like the film presents that as somehow an attractive or admirable quality.

My 14-year old just taught me how to play Tangerine on guitar.
Upon reflection, is there a twilight zone thread around here?

Yeah, I'd hate the movie too if I thought that's what it was doing.Birds in Hell wrote:I feel as though it presents rock music as a kind of refuge of perpetual adoloscence for juvenile men (and relegates women to the role of fawning supporter). Re: Post Random Music-Related Thoughts You Have
Are you guys saying I'm wildly off-base? There's probably a good chance that's true, it's been a while since I saw the film (and I usually don't tend to finish it when it happens to be on because it drives me so nuts).
Perhaps it's that 'awesome rock n' roll outlaw' kind of rock mythology that I have a problem with in general and the film is just another example of that being reflected in popular culture.

Re: Post Random Music-Related Thoughts You Have
I'm not saying you're way off base. The elements you're talking about exist in the film, for sure. However, I don't think the ultimate point of the movie is to glorify them. I actually a big part of the journey of the main character is seeing through and letting go of those myths and seeing shit for what it is.Birds in Hell wrote:Are you guys saying I'm wildly off-base?
