Perhaps it's that 'awesome rock n' roll outlaw' kind of rock mythology that I have a problem with in general and the film is just another example of that being reflected in popular culture.
I dont really see any "rock n roll outlaw" in the film. I think crowes explanation of the film as a "love letter to music" is spot on. Its about the power it can have over us as kids and into our adulthood. its about that sort of passion that can change someones life and drive us. Its about loss of innocence, its about relationships, its about fun.

I'm not saying you're way off base. The elements you're talking about exist in the film, for sure. However, I don't think the ultimate point of the movie is to glorify them. I actually a big part of the journey of the main character is seeing through and letting go of those myths and seeing shit for what it is.
Absolutely. He begins to see them as humans, hyprocrites, assholes instead of rock gods. When he first meets Stillwater outside of the arena early on he looks up to them, by the end he thinks they are a bunch of ass clowns. But it comes down to his love for the music by the end.

This is 100% the core of the story. Surprised that you didn't pick that up, spenno.

You guys are making me want to watch it again now however I'm still sure I won't be able to stand it.
I may very well be misplacing what my problem is with it - bodysnatcher might be right and it could just be really boring.
