What movies are you watching?

Anybody see Sicario yet? It's playing at the local cinema this weekend, I am on the fence. On the one hand, I love all the actors, and the story looks compelling. On the other, I hate Sons of Anarchy (same writer) and saw a bit of Prisoners (same director) that left me underwhelmed.

Kurt Sutter was not involved with Sicario. Perhaps you're thinking of Southpaw?

In any case, Sicario was very mediocre. Frustingly so, because the first 30 minutes are great.

Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

I'm a sucker for boxing movies (who isn't?), but I enjoyed Southpaw. Maybe not one of the best movies of the year, but certainly worth seeing. Especially if you like Jake Gyllenhaal.

What a waste..such an obvious movie. Everything seems lifted from another movie and the story is such an obvious one,,its makes me mad that some people are calling this one a very creative masterpiece.

As far as his last good movie, I enjoyed Pacific Rim but didn't think it was anything great. I think Hellboy II is his best movie, though. He just needs to stick to action-fantasy material and never make "serious" fare like CP.

well i liked pan`s laberynth and mimic and the other spanish movies he made. And yes, Hellboy 2 is nice...Pacific Rim? Boring.

But i guess i realized he is not the guy i thought he coule be 10 years ago.

The Devil's Backbone was pretty fantastic. Actually, that one and Hellboy might be the only two movies he's made that I like. Though I haven't seen Hellboy II or Pacific Rim.
