I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

There's a great story Larry told on some podcast, about how he and Seinfeld met. Apparently Larry was just beginning to try his hand at standup, but it wasn't going so hot. He met Jerry, and soon after they went to a small dinner party. The conversation turned to their stand-up routines, and Larry happened to have some of his written material with him. Jerry started reading it on a whim, and everyone was laughing. As Larry told it, it was immediately obvious that their two sensibilities would complement each other perfectly.
I really hate how-we-met stories. I find them cloying and annoying.

The "you run that ass into the ground?" exchange between Leon and Funkhauser has been in nonstop quote rotation around my apartment lately.

Marty: I'm excited. I'm single.
Leon: Get out there, and get some new ass. Know what I'm saying, huh? You done ran the other ass in the ground, right?
Marty: I don't want to talk about my wife like that.
Leon: You ran that ass in the ground, and you're movin' on, right?
Marty: Well, I didn't run any—we had a nice marriage for twenty…
Leon: You ran that other ass in the ground…
Marty: I don't run people's ass in the ground.
Leon: All men do!
Larry: It's not a negative thing to run an ass in the ground.

"We were trying to recreate what happened 25 years ago, and I said, 'Larry, would you like to make a toast?' And someone said, 'Larry went home to take a shit.'" -Marty

Fav Five Recurring Characters*:

1. Marty Funkhouser - Consistently funny, and I like how he has two different roles in the show: he can play both the straight man and the gag man, depending on the situation. "Your cunt is in the sink!"

2. Andy David - Richard Kind gives me life. He was born to play this role, whether he knows it or not. The best part of his character is that he's basically Larry, except with no wit.

3. Wanda - I love Wanda because, besides Susie, she's the character on the show who has the most contempt for Larry; he can do absolutely no right in her eyes, and she successfully twists everything he says into an affront. "Hey, big ass!"

4. Leon - Leon is hit or miss for me, but when his scenes hit, they're gold--best when he's doing character work and not being the uncomfortable stock crazy black man. That scene where the doctor thinks he and Larry are lovers is great because he's just expressing true feelings when he says, "I love you, man," to Larry.

5. Tessler - Michael McKean just elevates everyone around him, and his sincere concern about Groat's disease gets me every time.

*"Recurring Characters" are anyone who's in more than one episode who's not Larry, Cheryl, Jeff, or Susie

Ever since Curb Your Enthusiasm ended its eighth season on HBO in 2011, it's become constant cocktail and blog fodder to speculate whether the critically lauded Larry David comedy would return for a ninth season. As each year passed, hope began to dwindle — David's a pretty busy guy, after all — but about a month ago, a phone call between J.B. Smoove and David might've served as a major game changer for the show's future. "I call Larry every two weeks, because he's old, he's a busy man, so I always check on older people," Smoove, who plays Leon Black on the show, said while appearing on The Rich Eisen Show earlier this week. "I just talk about regular stuff with him, it's not always Curb stuff. But this time, aha! He brings up Curb Your Enthusiasm; I don't ever bring it up."

The conversation that ensued was extremely optimistic for Curb enthusiasts. "He starts off with his little, 'Ehhhhh, you know, I'm thinking about coming back.' But see, that's great because he has not said no, which puts us in a great position for possibilities ... that means it's still going," Smoove continued. "If Larry does not say no, there's a possibility he may say yes. And then he went extra. He said, 'If I do come back, would you be available?' I said, 'You know something Larry, I'll be available. Just call me, give me early notice, and I'll be there.' I'll move anything to the side for Curb Your Enthusiasm, which would be a fabulous thing to do. Season nine would be fabulous." Yes, it most certainly would, J.B.
