I wonder if Irsay will fire Pagano mid-season?

Is Pagano popular among players and fans? I genuinely don't know. The Colts will almost certainly make the playoffs, so I don't know if it makes much sense, as it could cause more problems than it'd solve. They're a couple of plays away from forcing the Pats into a corner last night (not to say that they'd beat them, but it could've been closer), and if they eke into the playoffs they could get a few lucky bounces and make it to the AFC championship game again. So they're season isn't necessarily lost yet.

Yeah, they'll probably back into the playoffs. But Pagano is a lame duck coach at this point. And he and Irsay have been in a stand-off for over a year, so I wonder if he'll pull the trigger now since the spotlight is on Pagano.

Also, Irsay is a total hothead (and drunk).

Just curious, when was the last time a coach was fired the same year as making the playoffs?

I know Lovie Smith was fired for just missing @ 10-6.

Yeah didn't the Chargers fire someone who took them to the playoffs like 4 years in a row?

nevermind I was thinking Norv Turner, but his last 3 seasons with the Chargers weren't very good.

I feel like coaches who get shitcanned after a playoff run usually "split" with a team instead of getting fired. Bill Parcells left New England after making it to a Superbowl, but the Pats made sure they got something in return for it.

George Seifert had an amazing 49ers coaching career that ended with a messy departure. While he wasn't outright fired after the 1996 season, he was basically told he was a lame duck, and that they'd be hiring Mariuci as OC to be groomed to takeover the HC position in 1998. So, he resigned instead.

Everyone somehow seemed to miss John Fox "mutually parting ways" with the Broncos just last season?
