Resin is interesting enough to stand out when you're looking for a good IPA and don't want something too familiar, and it counters spicy food nicely. For those two reasons, I've been drinking a ton of it lately.oasisfan35 wrote:Agreed, when I first had Resin I thought it was the perfect name but again not my favorite hop profile for the style.Orpheus wrote:They seem to have a pretty unique take on things, which I like. None of their beers taste like anything made by another brewery IMO.
Other IPAs I've sampled over the holidays, ranked in order of preference:
Victory Yakima Glory
Harpoon Rye
Squatter's IPA
None of those are duds, but somebody has to be last.

It's got a distinct sweetness to it.

Over time I've concluded that my two favorite beers are Founders Red's Rye, and Ithaca Flower Power IPA. There's so many great beers out there, but those two just do it for me better than the rest.

Tried this mixture tonight. Not too bad for a gimmicky-type combo.

Watching football and enjoying a 12 pack of a Longtrail sampler: Long Trail Ale, Hit the Trail, Pale Ale, and Hibernator.
All very good, Hibernator is currently winning.

Long Trail was the most memorable of the beers I had in New England last fall. I liked the ale a lot, and I also had some of the Harvest. Really clean water they have up there.

Yeah they've always been a favorite of mine. Then again, I have a strong affinity for the state of Vermont.washing machine II wrote:Long Trail was the most memorable of the beers I had in New England last fall. Not their best, but the 12.12.12 Vertical Epic is pretty good. Definitely worth trying if you can locate it.

I'll be pretty happy when I finally reach 200 beers at Flying Saucer. I've grown to loath that place.

My buddy and I split this the other night. He was a big fan, I was not. Too much of a spice bomb for me. I don't always dislike a heavily spiced beer, but I wasn't a fan of how everything was balanced (or not) in this one. Like I said though, my buddy really liked it.Chris_H_2 wrote:Not their best, but the 12.12.12 Vertical Epic is pretty good. Definitely worth trying if you can locate it.

Anyone try the Blue Moon brews that were aged in wine barrels?

Other than their IPA's and the Indian Brown I'm not usually a big fan of Dogifsh Head but every once in a while I'll try one of their weirder beers. Last night I finally tried the Chicory Stout. I admire the creativity DH puts into their beers and their general outlook on brewing but that was the nastiest Stout I've had in a while.

Chicory has been hit or miss over the years, I remember the first few I had about5 or so years ago were very lackluster; last year was great (or perhaps the year before) this year is also lacking but not terrible in my opinion. Still have the same sixer I purchased when they were released actually.vegman wrote:Other than their IPA's and the Indian Brown I'm not usually a big fan of Dogifsh Head but every once in a while I'll try one of their weirder beers. Had Rogue Juniper Pale Ale recently. I mean it's a good regular ale with some juniper taste, nothing mind blowing but worth a try.
I've always liked Chicory Stout for what it's worth, what didn't you like about it? The last time I got it was early last year and it was good.
I drank the last two of my Hopslams with my dad over the weekend aged about 11 months, and they were maybe a little more mellowed than they were fresh. I didn't remember tasting as much of the honey but still, one of my favorite IPA's ever.
