What if Han is on a talk show reminiscing about the past, though? And Chewie shows up, Han yells at him for sleeping with Leia, and then blasts him? Like, Tarantino style? And what if all the younger Solos have mysteriously hairy arms? And what if there's an explicit flashback? And in the flashback, you can see Luke hiding in the closet and beating off while he watches? And what if that's why he's in seclusion?

You're really not thinking this through friend.

What if kylo ren and Rey are twins, Han and leias kids, somehow they thought lost, Ren figures out his grandfather was Vader and becomes obsessed and starts the first order, taking loads of divisions of troops from his mothers army(she'd be a commander of some sort of leader of the resistance) to try to re-establish the empire in his grandfathers image and Han and leia are heartbroken cos they find out its him and what he's doing and Luke is the only one that can stop him so they set out to find him?

I love this. Could explain that scene with Poe Dameron and Kylo.

This idea bothers me. I'd rather they were their own characters with their own motivations, not, "You gotta save the universe b/c it's your birthright!" They've already given Poe that sort of backstory in the comics, so, as they say, I've got a bad feeling about this. Finn intrigues me because he's so obviously a blank slate.

I wouldnt get too excited then because I think ultimately Star Wars is about the Skywalker journey.

Blegh, I hate that line. There's so much going on in Star Wars that has nothing to do with the Skywalkers; just because Luke was the de-facto protagonist of the first trilogy doesn't mean we've gotta be bogged down in it all again.

I guess I fall into a camp that isn't well represented here, which is: I'm excited for this movie, but really worried that behind the visuals and characters with new names, it's going to be sort of hollow in the center if it plays with the same "epic" tropes that we've seen in dozens of other forms of media (Lord of the Rings, ASOIF/Game of Thrones, Lost, etc.). I don't so much care if the rumors are true and I'm not interested in who dies/who's related to whom/etc. as much as I'd like a complex story, told well, with stakes that matter, that asks interesting questions. I was hoping the anthology films could offer something like this, too, but when I heard that the second one is going to be about Han Solo, my eyes rolled out of my head faster than when Rory thought Dean would leave Lindsay for her.

I guess I'll never tire of a similar story line as long as it is told well. Thats really all it comes down to and sure this could all just be flare with no substance, but from all accounts I am not getting that feeling. Mostly, if it continues to focus on the skywalker bloodline, i still think there are a lot of interesting questions and dynamics that can be explored. This is something that people deal with constantly in livfe, good bad, what is deemed as good/bad, figuring their spot in the universe etc..etc... its a wide blanket of story telling but I think the bones of that can allow for some really interesting story lines.

The prequel trilogy had that but the storytelling was a fucking joke. Of course.

Honestly, the OT is pretty hollow at the center and full to bursting with "epic" tropes. There will be real stakes that really matter, for sure. I don't know how complex the story will really be or what kinds of questions it'll ask, but Abrams tends to like big (even if obvious) questions. And his stories can be complex to a fault. I'm guessing he errs on the side of simplicity for this.

Now, how well told all of it will be...? I'm sure we'll all have very different opinions about that.
