The cantina band was definitely NOT on Jabba's barge when it blew up.

Jabba hired them but They displeased Jabba greatly and were fed to the rancor about a week after skywalkers departure.

I think they were trying to take the pithy bravado they had in Han Solo in the original trilogy - which really lent a significant part of the charm to those films - but then amp it up for the dashing young Obi Wan.
