I don't out hate the midichlorian idea outright. There was a way to do it in an interesting and/or compelling way, I think. They just... didn't do it.

I don't mind it. It isn't like they made a big deal out of it or anything, just kind of threw it in there.

Which is what made it so poor. Such terrible dialogue and seemed like not much thought went into it.

Which is an epically terrible idea. The Force was great because it was mysterious and nonscientific, in contrast with the rest of the setting. Reducing it to really nonsensical science took away its reason for existing in the story.

"Use the Force, Luke" becomes ridiculous at that point. If he is gonna use science, just use the fucking targeting computer!

when you take a thing apart to find out how it works youve left the path to wisdom - gandalf...i think..

he really should have left it alone and as a magic rather than a science.

but wouldn't it be more like a mutation super power? Just because they have it doesn't mean they know how to get a hold on it and use it. They could just be walking around their whole life with a shit ton of midi chlorians and be all "whatever".

What's the point then, really? "Oh turns out you have superpowers to do whatever the plot requires, have fun"

It works better as an alternative to a world of gadgets and technology, not as a really dumb add-on to an already science heavy world.
