I haven't seen the others but I wouldn't be surprised if Boyle's was the worst of the bunch.

Nah, he's made some good movies. Though I haven't liked anything he's made lately, and it's been a long time since I've seen the ones I did like.

i haven't seen a lot of his stuff...i thought slumdog was overrated, and sunshine was 3/4th's of a good movie

Never bothered with Slumdog, but I hated Sunshine. The last movie of his I liked was Millions.

I just saw Steve Jobs. I wish I had just watched Birdman a second time.

Haha, I was thinking how similar they were as well. I find theaters/backstage to be innately fascinating and I loved all the actors, so I really dug it. But it's definitely a movie that a lot of people will not enjoy. Not surprised to find out it's totally bombing at the box office.

I liked the cast too, and the backstage aesthetic was fine, but where Birdman knew what it was exploring and did so cohesively and intelligently (and poetically), Steve Jobs never seems to find a central theme, idea, or insight. The focus on the daughter felt very trite and, frankly, wrong-headed to me. A very lazy way to characterize Jobs as a flawed, human figure. Birdman tackled artistic obsession/narcissism/egomania and how it interacts with familial obligation and personal relationships much more insightfully, truthfully, and ecstatically. It walks while Jobs talks.

I would agree with most of this, but I still really dug it. Boyle actually put a little too much of an uplifting touch on it for me, but that's just his style. I would have been interested to see Fincher take on the same script.

Just watching the great actors work with a solid script was enough to make it very entertaining to me, even if it never went anywhere. It's directionless - it's barely a movie- but I enjoyed it purely because of the performances. It wore out its welcome by the end though.

The first trailer I saw made it look awful. It looked like typical deification bio bullshit. But the other trailer I saw sold me on it. A Steve Jobs movie doesn't interest me at all, but I don't watch these movies for the accuracy (and I doubt this one is very accurate at all).

I never liked the cult of Apple to begin with, and I just wrapped up a horrible two month institutional experience with them, so I'm a bit sour on the whole company right now.

Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

Well, the worst thing about this movie is that is boring. Its supposed to be fun, campy and gore and its not that. There is absolutely no humor at all, we dont care about anything, its not well shot, the acting is atrocious...what happened Roth? At least with Cabin Fever and the Hostel movies you seemed to care...At least Knock Knock is so stupid you can move along with it....
