it is probably the best part of the song, but I find myself reluctant to agree with this for reasons that are confusing to me

In the studio, the mid-section half-tempo collapse is the saving grace by far. It's what keeps it from being an unremarkable stumble of a speed-read. Live, it ranges from "the jamming" to "basically nothing." Or it did as late as 2003. I dunno what it's like now.
In its prime the mid section was my favorite part of the song live, but for the studio it's the whole bit coming out of the bridge as it starts to speed up--the whole sequence, eddie, the band, especially mike's guitar part (I'm assuming Mike)--there's so much defiant catharsis in it. Everything that is so great about Ten era Pearl Jam is condensed into that minute sequence.

Immortality has a great outro, but it's probably not the best part.

Does anyone think there's a live version where Mike tops the studio solo?
Think I’m going to try being kind to everyone a chance.

Jeremy is a good one. The guitars are droning, Ed is worldessly moaning, Jeff's 12-string bass is chiming, it's all happening and I'm into it.

Its sounds great, but it is a Doors rip off. So I have a hard time with it.

In answer to the video's question: no, I don't think it's remotely shocking.

Mike knowingly quotes some of the same riffs but it's hardly a "rip off", Alive is very clearly its own thing.

Wow I love Mike playing here, but I don't think he does anything to make it his own. It it may be that he being a fan of Kiss is pulling inspiration from that and never heard the doors variation, and because he is or should I say was a real blues inspired player came up with something that is closer to the original.
