What are your favorite episodes of television shows?
In this thread, we'll name our favorite episodes of television shows, and other people will try to convince us why some other epsiodes are better. Try to limit it to one episode per series, but no limit on the number of series you can name.

Seinfeld - "The Marine Biologist" SE05EP14

Oh man, this is gonna be difficult. But here are a few:
-South Park: "Night of the Living Homeless" (S11,E7)
-Star Trek: The Next Generation: "The Offspring" (S3,E16), followed very closely by "The Measure of a Man" (S2,E9).
-The X-Files: "The Post-Modern Prometheus" (S5,E5)
-Z Nation: "White Light" (S2,E2)
Also, I could NEVER choose a favorite episode of Seinfeld or The Simpsons. Too many classics.

This is an excellent choice. One of my criteria for choosing a Seinfeld episode is that it has to be a strong George episode, because he's by far my favorite character, and this is one of his best performances. Whenever I eat a Twix, I always think of: "They're all Twix!" Nothing is better than a George scheme gone wrong, which is why I picked "The Marine Biologist," mainly because he sticks with his story until the bitter end.@SkitchP wrote:Seinfeld: The Dealership S9 Ep 11
Another great one. Clark Johnson is a great actor, and this is probably his finest hour. I have to do some more thinking about Homicide, but it's hard to beat "Three Men and Adena."Homicide: Life on the Street: Crosetti S3 E6
Solid gold.Arrested Development: Good Grief S2 E4

True Story: I accidentally clicked the "Nathan For You" thread last night. And upon seeing your recommendations, I intend on giving it a watch very soon based entirely on our shared Television opinions.
Seinfeld season 9 is much maligned. But I think increasing the role of Putty was sheer genius. Just so great across the board.
I thought about 3 Men and Adena, but Crosetti is the one episode in television that can bring a legit tear to my eye.

Skitch's comments reminded me to include this one, which is--maybe--my favorite half-hour of television ever:

Re: What are your favorite episodes of television shows?
The Wire - "Old Cases" SE01EP04
Homicide - "Bop Gun" SE02EP01
I could easily be talked into other episodes from either series. I picked "Old Cases" because it contains my favorite scene from the entire series--"Fuck" / "Fuck" / "Fuuuuuck"--and it sort of a small-picture representation of the power of the whole enterprise. I think "Bop Gun" is similar in some ways--it was one of the first episodes of Homicide to revolve around a red ball, and those were always the tensest, fastest-moving episodes. But there are moments where this one slows to a crawl to do some great character work (not surprisingly, it was the first written by David Simon).

Re: What are your favorite episodes of television shows?
I've been thinking about Lost since before I started this thread, and I still haven't decided which one to pick yet. I was almost certain that it'd be a Locke episode, and was about ready to pick "Walkabout" (SE01EP04), but the introduction of Desmond was one of my favorite things the series did. Because of this, I'm heavily leaning towards "Man of Science, Man of Faith," because even though it's a Jack episode, it's got all that sweet Desmond stuff, including one of the best season-opening scenes of all time.ABNorman wrote:Lost - The Constant

Re: What are your favorite episodes of television shows?
Another reason I had a hard time picking an episode of The Wire was because I really don't know the different episodes by title--way back in the day when I was watching pirated copies of the show on my iPod touch during breaks at work, the files were just titled "Season One.EP01" or something like that. I've watched it again since then, of course, but haven't really committed episode titled to memory. But when I was trying to pick a favorite, that conversation between Stringer and Avon (plus how the episode ends, of course) came to mind.cutuphalfdead wrote:The Wire - Season 3 Episode 11 - Middle Ground
