Took my kids to this yesterday. Animation was really good. Overall, not bad. They did spend way too much on the Red Baron cutaways with Snoopy, which started to really drag and make my kids bored. But finally a good message with Charlie Brown as opposed to showing the kid as a total loser reject.

What do you mean finally? Have you ever seen the Christmas special? That had a great message.

Thought this was good. The animation turned out to be pretty solid and the story was good. Part of me wishes they would've taken more risks with the story, but then again that wouldn't be very "Peanuts"-like. I enjoyed it, but I must admit it felt pretty light-weight and disposable compared to something like Inside Out.

Mom's birthday was yesterday so we went to see this with her granddaughter after lunch out yesterday. Not bad but it did feel lightweight. It was nice to see Peanuts characters being exactly the same as I grew up with; there was a few allusions to the strip/cartoons but they didn't go overboard updating them to modern audiences. And yes, the Red Baron stuff went on way too long.

You mean the Charlie Brown who thought he ruined Christmas by getting a shitty tree only to learn that the true meaning of Christmas has nothing to do with how nice your tree looks, and is instead about celebrating with the people you love?

No, I mean the Charlie Brown around whom his friends finally rally and treat with dignity, emphasizing a message of inclusion, as opposed to the Charlie Brown that is constantly berated and reminded that he's a degenerate halfwit missing a chromosome sending a message that it's ok to alienate little kids.

...It establishes, from its very debut, that this strip is not about the adorable inanities of being a child. It’s about the cruelties and hardships of being a child; children can be bullying, backstabbing, petty people. And sometimes, children can be irrational, and hate someone for no reason — simply ‘because.’

Now, granted: the earlier years of the strip had plenty of easy, cutesy humor — Schroeder, Linus, and Lucy were toddlers and infants at the beginning of the strip’s run, instead of the seven and eight-year-olds they would eventually become. But it was still expressive humor — Schulz played around with facial expressions and wordless punchlines to hilarious effect.

It was around the mid-late 50s that the strip really came into its own, and started cultivating an adult’s despair and rejection. And then there were other strips that were just pitch black, with no happy resolution or redemption. Because sometimes, life isn’t fair. Even Schroeder, one of his most loyal friends, abandons him in a time of need. It’s difficult to think of a strip that so cruelly battered its main character in the way that Peanuts did.

Schulz saw darkness in America’s youth, and he highlighted their painful realities, particularly their social strata.

for the record, I like the block head Charlie Brown better. But my daughter is a grade A bitch, and we're trying to teach her to not be so caddy with her friends at 5. So I was reluctant to take her.
