Re: Even more Guns N Roses Hilarity
Appetite was the first real rock record I really got into. It had been out for a few years and already had a reputation. I was in middle school at the time and for growing up in a conservative, country music house I felt like I was listening to something forbidden and dangerous. I remember my dad really hating it, telling me several times to "turn that mess down" and that it sounded like a bunch of cats screeching more than singing. This led to some preaching about rock n'roll and that lifestyle in general.
Use Your Illusion came out in high school & I liked several songs between the two. GnR became my last "favorite band" before Pearl Jam. I never got to see them but did go to one of Axl's shows, what I referred to as Gun N Roses*, and while I found it bloated and overwraught I also enjoyed large chunks of it. So yeah, I'd probably buy a ticket to a reunion show. Current middle aged rock fan would probably wince some and hope Axl hasn't gone full David Lee Roth but thirteen year old me discovering rock music would probably have blast. And they every guy always loves what he loved when he was thirteen.

I would absolutely go see a show. Mostly out of curiosity. I saw the Axl And Co show back in 2002 in minneapolis and definitely had fun. I absolutely wish I got to see the band back in their club days, although i was merely 7 years old.Biff Pocoroba wrote:Appetite was the first real rock record I really got into. I am also curious as to how this reunion will go. Gilby Clarke going to be a part of it? With Sorum and Adler take their respective songs? is Izzy on board?
If nothing else I hope there is some new music as im sure Axl can make it happen in the studio. I dont quite enjoy big rock bands anymore and haven't really cared about any of their respective solo albums outside of GNR. Not a fan of VR or Snakepit or Loaded, but seeing what an aged GnR would release interests me.
Morbid Curiosity ? Maybe.

And at that point Guns N' Roses will have gone completely Van Halen.PHATJ wrote:I was never a GNR fan so I couldn't care less. That said, Axl hasn't sounded like Axl in 15 years so why does anyone care? They'll probably start fighting again and just break up after a few shows. It'll be hilarious no matter what happens.

I dont know...Roth was never a good singer, its 100% about his schtick and persona. Has he ever done anything as completely embarassing as Axl's version of Welcome to the Jungle from Bridge a while back?
I'd see niether but give me a ticket to see Van Halen over GNR...

DLR is the world's greatest cartoon, and an American treasure. He is the William Shatner of cock rock.

Re: Even more Guns N Roses Hilarity
Roth just doesn't try anymore. You're right, he was never a good singer, but he could be ok live as long as he was trying (which admittedly wasn't often enough). But I'd say that live album they put out could be on a par with Axl at Bridge School (although at least the musical part of the band sounds damn good, whereas the entire bridge thing with GNR was a trainwreck).
This is more of an event than anything else if it happens. People want to be able to say they saw Axl and Slash on stage together. Duff doesn't even really matter in the long run, it's nice that he's there, but ultimately, people will pay to see Axl and Slash. Hell, there was a pretty strong rumor not too long ago that the "reunion" is only going to be those three with current members of Axl's GNR filling in the rest of the spots (I actually think Slash's drummer would be a great fit if they didn't want to bother with Sorum or Adler), and I honestly wouldn't be surprised if that's all it is. Someone like me cares about Izzy being involved, but most casual people don't care.

Re: Even more Guns N Roses Hilarity
Im a big fan of Duff but of course most people only care about the recognizable faces. Considering most of Axl's cast have quit GNR, i can't see them filling in the holes. Steven Adler has been very vocal about the reunion and if he's not included he will most likely off himself.MattA75 wrote:Roth just doesn't try anymore. Im pretty certain this will be the original line up. They've all played with axl at one point over the past couple years.

i'm not sure any list that omits Welcome to the Jungle can be considered legit.

"Paradise City" is pretty awesome. That would make a top ten.
