The Vinyl Thread: Still Listen On Wax, Don't Use The CD

Other than Pearl Jam, who else is there?

This is a lame question -- but can one upgrade a cartridge on their own? If I buy that player and then buy that cartridge can I easily replace it on my own at home, or do I need to take it to a shop?

I've never had to replace a cartridge.

I took mine to a shop, just bc I wanted it to be perfectly straight. They have all sorta of measuring tools so that you can do it yourself, I've just never tried it.

I've never had to replace a cartridge.
It took me 2 minutes.

This plugged into the electrical plugs from the prior one and fit right into the arm no problem at all.

And if you wanna get super technical, you can adjust the counterweight tracking pressure with the new stylus, bc a lot of them weigh slightly different. Especially if it has problems staying in the groove.

I just got the limited represses of two Broken Social Scene albums--the self-titled record and "You Forgot it In People." Both look and sound great--bonjour, Canada and southp!

That was pretty interesting. I think the Pearl Jam reissues interview would be much shorter, along the lines of "We found a cd laying around the warehouse and brickwalled it. Louder is so much better, you know. Then we made and sold some t-shirts to celebrate that."
Think I’m going to try being kind to everyone a chance.

Louder means it's better rock'n'roll, right?

I found an interview with the guys (can't remember names) who did the recent Beatles' stereo and mono reissues, and it was MUCH less informative, and they sounded much less enthusiastic and interested in the project. Which could be unfair to judge on my part, that might have been the 3rd interview they gave that day with the same questions. But the Miles Davis info was much more interesting

So apparently Jimmy Page is in town for a fundraising event, and yesterday he bounced around a few record stores in town. One of them being a store that I visit on a weekly basis. THE DAY BEFORE he popped into that shop, I happened to be in there buying a copy of Zeppelin 2. How fuggin' lame would that have been if I was standing there buying Zeppelin 2 and Jimmy Page walks in. I would have just dug a grave right there and buried myself.

Is anyone else getting gifts from the Vinyl Santa anytime soon? I have some pretty wild pre-orders out there in the ether, and they should all come in in the next 2-3 weeks:

Wilco had a big sale in their shop last week, which included vinyl. So I picked up Yankee Foxtrot Hotel (which i never owned, somehow), A Ghost is Born, and Sky Blue Sky for pretty cheap

FYI, Replacements came out with a box set of their first 4 vinyl not too long ago. I know that's right up your alley.
