Matt Damon's latest movie The Martian has left people wonderig if it's based on a true story.

Re: Movie: The Martian (Ridley Scott; Matt Damon)
i agree with zeb....pretty good movie
only two things bugged me about it.
1) i realize you are a fairly smart person to be an astronaut but he seemed to know too much about everything for just being a "botanist"
2) when he was digging up the rover why was it so high above the ground as he was digging it out when he had to dig it out in the first place

And if the storms there are so intense how are those little flag markers still there afterwards?

Even the scope of the movie was awful. Ridley Scott did this? Looked like a tv series.

But I have to disagree with VG. I thought the scope was incredibly cinematic. Gorgeous movie.

Cinematic? Look at Gravity, look at Interstellar...The Martian looked like an HBO special series.durdencommatyler wrote:This was a good post.LoathedVermin72 wrote:That's why Joey liked it

I haven't seen either of those. But I don't see why I'd have to to appreciate The Martian's look.VinylGuy wrote:Cinematic? Look at Gravity, look at Interstellar...The Martian looked like an HBO special series.durdencommatyler wrote:This was a good post.LoathedVermin72 wrote:That's why Joey liked it

Re: Movie: The Martian (Ridley Scott; Matt Damon)
I haven't seen The Martian yet, but I was a bit perplexed when I saw the trailers by the very thing VG is saying: it looked very flat and uninteresting visually. I mean, this is Ridley Scott - the guy who made Alien, Blade Runner, and Legend. Hell, even his recent work like Prometheus and Exodus looked sweepingly cinematic. How could these dull images be crafted by the same eye?

Actually, come to think of it, I suppose this wouldn't be entirely unprecedented: White Squall was a shockingly flat-looking movie too. God, Scott is so frustrating!

If you saw it you'd understand that that cinematic sweeping blah blah you mention wouldn't ft in this film at all.
It's one guy stuck in a small base trying to survive. It hardly needs swooping overhead cameras or john Willams scoring it. Neither would work at all in this film.
Which would be obvious if you watched it.

And who the fuck mentioned Gravity????
What, you'll deal with a god awful non storyline AND an awful cast just to have some cool space shots?
Get a grip
