The Velvet Underground
I thought I was so cool being the only one in high school listening to these guys. And I was drug free too.
Live 1969. Great stuff.

Yeah...I didn't get into these guys til sophomore year of college; I was sick of reading about them in every music anything with words and not have even heard a song of theirs.
On first listen I thought they were terrible. Now I love three of their records and quite like the other one. Then I thought I was pretty cool...still do. That live show is pretty entertaining. Their unreleased '69 record is pretty good too...some stuff that ended up popping up later.

Fantastic documentary. I didn't even know American Masters did one. Mainly about Lou Reed of course, but the first half hour is all Velvets.

Loaded is so good! I love "Oh! Sweet Nuthin'". It really is a "loaded" album with "Rock N' Roll", "Sweet Jane", "Head Held High", "Cool It Down", "Lonesome Cowboy Bill", etc...I think most people tend to like 'The Velvet Underground & Nico' the best, but I've always preferred 'Loaded' and 'The Velvet Underground' (3rd album).Gods' Die wrote:Oh! Cool It Down (early version) - The Velvet Underground
I think I am truly falling for the Velvet Underground for the first time and Loaded is leading the charge.
'White Light/White Heat is a weird one. I should probably go back and listen to it, but the last time I did so, it was still a miss for me.
One of my personal favorites wasn't on a proper album:

Yeah...it's crazy how different all their albums are. I actually like all of them quite a lot (quick skip trigger-finger on their second record), but my favorites are definitely their 3rd & 4th records.

I was quite taken by this song a while back.

This was my introduction to Lou Reed. I remember wondering why he looked so confused during the song. I'm still not sure.

I remember my buddy played this for me in college and introduced me to their rarities. In my top three Velvet songs. Just listen to Cale's viola playing

Was listening to the S/T record yesterday. Man what an album that is. The songs may be somewhat conventionally constructed but all the odd quirks in the performance and writing really push it into unique and wonderful territory. It's been a while since I've heard it and it's only gotten better.

“I’m Set Free” is really hitting me in a special way today. What a song. How beautiful is that solo?
