The notion that the new movie has a reasonable chance of being better than parts of the original trilogy.
It'll be more than good enough to revive Star Wars as a property that generates excitement and joy. There's no need to pull down better movies in order to sing its praises beyond that.

I dont recall him pulling down the OT to justify potentially loving this film.McParadigm wrote:Stip?Strat wrote:I dont think anyone has done that cept for burt?McParadigm wrote:The notion that the new movie has a reasonable chance of being better than parts of the original trilogy.

Probably. But he couldn't quite bring himself to do that without giving it a favorable comparison relative to the OT.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII: The Force Awakens (2015)
Does anyone else wish they had that level of excitement after seeing a new hope?
And then look at how much it kinda sucks now by comparison to what followed
We could be in for all that again
Abrams seems to suggest so, saying he can't wait for the second film in this trilogy

I'm gonna kill rm and not post until I've seen this.
You guys are too good at killing the joy of something before it's happened.
And that maligned view might be deserved in this case but I hope and want to hope it isn't.
I hope this is awesome and you all have to eat shit.
Be cool if you could admit it's awesome, if it is, but let's see.
Jinky out.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII: The Force Awakens (2015)
I don't recall having any real level of excitement after A New Hope. I must have because my parents sure spent a fortune buying me a bunch of toys.
I have no idea if this movie will be any good. Based only on the people involved and the limited footage we've seen, I'm optimistic. I hope and expect it to be good and fun and all of that stuff. I expect to enjoy myself and I expect to feel some sparks of imagination and desire to create, as I do when a see a well done movie.

You can trust that I'll be honest with myself and RM, though. If I hate it, I'll let you know that I hated it. If it's the best thing I've ever seen, I'll tell you that, too. If it's uneven and mediocre or a letdown or whatever, I'll be honest and tell you that.
I don't need this movie to be great and I don't need it to fail. I wish it the best. And I hope if lives up to my current expectations.

Looks good to me. I only saw the first big trailer though. Haven't looked at anything else.

ITT: Being skeptical and critical about something because you're not sure if you'll enjoy it = "killing the joy of something" for everyone else

Im just saying that im going to have a fucking blast watching it and ill probably ride that high. And when/if that fades, thats okay too. if this movie ends up being less enjoyable, thats okay too.
