Yeah, swimming is fantastic at toning you up. It killed me when my gym closed their pool a few years back.

Re: The Work-Out Thread
fair enough...i guess its like a non-runner going out on a that first run, but i still cant justify that to be the only reason i join a gym. excuses, excuses.turned2black wrote:Nothing to be intimidated by, friend. I'm usually the slowest person in the pool. As much as I like running, NOTHING shapes a body like swimming. I've done 4 swims in the past week or so and my chest has gone from junior high to high school.BDB wrote:turned2black wrote:1 mile swim in 34 minutes
Hit the outside pool again. Felt strong and smooth. Now that I have a few swims under my belt, I'll start working on my form, which I know is terrible. Run tomorrow.
A friend of mine is trying to talk me into doing a tri. too bad i dont swim well (meaning more than throwing a football around and drinking a beer in the neighbors pool). maybe if i had access to a pool i could start, but generally it intimidates the shit out of me.

Re: The Work-Out Thread
Got in a solid but not great workout. Did good on the upper body but dialed back a little bit on the legs & treadmill. My calves are bad to cramp up (hurts like holy fuck when that happens and takes a couple days to get back to normal) after a great workout Saturday followed by cutting my yard with a push mower and then going out Saturday night I woke up with them sore/tender. They were hurting in a different part of the muscle this time; right under knees.

10 miles in 73 minutes
Got no sleep last night, followed by a busy day at work. Every ounce of me wanted to go home, sit on the couch and eat my body weight in chips and salsa. But I punched the clock on the treadmill instead. 7:30 miles the first half, then cranked it up on the second half. Dinky sprint at the end. Fucking wasted afterward, but managed 4 sets of planks and about 120 push-ups. Smellin' a day off tomorrow, but may sneak in a swim. Got a nice little streak going.

last short "easy" run yesterday - little over 3 mi in the afternoon heat and humidity. it sucked, between the humidity and my allergies it felt like i was breathing through a wet towel.
rest today, just light weights, off tomorrow and my first road 10k on Saturday.

10 miles in 69 minutes
Felt good today. There was a fast guy on the treadmill next to me. He was only doing 7:30s, but he was probably 5'2" or so, so it looked like he was flying. I kept up my pace to not look like a slacker. Half-mile finishing sprint. Great run.
I think my GoRuns are a little overbuilt, so dug out my old NB 1600s. They felt like home.

I ran like 3 km today and felt pretty good about things. Then I read that some of you are running 10 miles a day. Wtf is that? Is that even normal?

7.5 miles in 55 minutes and 1 mile swim in 39 minutes
Ran to the gym, then hit the pool. It was 105 when I left. I took it easy. I was worried about calf cramp during the swim, so I was even slower than usual. 2 hours playing with the kids in the pool afterward. Wiped out.

Re: The Work-Out Thread
We've got a yoga/pilates class at my gym I've taken a few times. Yes, I've noticed some very nice looking ladies there too. There's no hot yoga offered but I'd try it out if they did.
I've kept up a every other day routine so while I got in a good workout Saturday morning it's back at it tonight.

10k race on Saturday - rain held off and it was fun. ran with the wife and we stuck together. i was really held back - avg 10/min miles.
legs felt sore on sunday, i think because i wasnt able to stride like normal. it was a fun race though.

I try to "kick" the last quarter-mile (preferably half-mile), then a dead sprint the last 50 yards or so.warehouse wrote:does everyone else sprint the last 20-30 yards of a run or am i the only asshole who does that?
