I like to think me and D have a good friendship. I respect him and damn near love him.
However, I just cannot get a handle on his RM posting. Not 1 bit.

George Lucas asked Ron Howard to direct The Phantom Menace
George Lucas asked Ron Howard to direct The Phantom Menace
“He did, he did,” Howard said in response to whether Lucas approached him about the film. “He didn’t necessarily want to direct them, and he told me that he had talked to [Robert] Zemeckis, he talked to me, he talked to Steven Spielberg. I was the third one he spoke to. They had all said the same thing, ‘George, you should just do it!’”
“Nobody wanted to follow that act, I don’t think, at that point. That was an honor, but it would’ve been just too daunting.”

Age depleted Spielberg big time. Or grandfatherhood. I dunno.
But yeah, I can imagine another director having a huge impact on those films. Phantom Menace could have been a decent little-kid movie

That's what I mean. Lucas still would have written Phantom regardless of who directed it, so I wonder how much better it ultimately would have been.durdencommatyler wrote:Also Lucas still wrote those movies.LoathedVermin72 wrote:Spielberg directed Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, so...Strat wrote:Oh man. By all accounts lucas has absolutely no idea how to get actors to perform. There are decent actors in the film and i imagine any of those directors would have made a better impact.durdencommatyler wrote:Also Lucas still wrote those movies.LoathedVermin72 wrote:Spielberg directed Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, so...Strat wrote:Oh man. You also wonder how much of the CGI saturation there would have been. Would another director have had the ability or the vision or the power/desire to circumvent Lucas?

It's pretty hard to argue when the most valid counterpoint is always "Crystal Skull."

I don't even mean it in the sense that it's terrible or anything, just that the movie was flooded with CGI and it all seemed to be due to Lucas's influence.durdencommatyler wrote:It's pretty hard to argue when the most valid counterpoint is always "Crystal Skull."

The cgi in the prequels is a bit much, but if there was decent acting and writing it would have been fine
