This is a good point.
Yeah, I totally agree.

It's kind of like modern day pearl jam. The production is often awful, but if there was decent songwriting it'd be fine.

Someone was on reddit last night claiming to be a sound mixer for the film, and offered this (I'd suggest not clicking if you're trying to avoid spoilers, even if it is just speculation disguised as a spoiler):
Spoiler: show
The reason we haven't seen Luke in anything (toys, stills, trailers) is because he's dead. He only appears as a force ghost. Apparently in recent interviews Hamil and Abrams have been hinting at something "shocking," and I think this would fit the bill.

I don't think that is very shocking, tbh.

I haven't clicked on the spoiler. But I will 100% guarantee that whoever that reddit user is, he's absolutely not a sound mixer for the film.

Even if he's not, I think it's an excellent theory. It actually (spoiler only for those who have clicked the spoiler above)
Spoiler: show
... makes sense considering the leaked photos from the set.

Actually, when I heard they were making another movie, my first thought was
Spoiler: show
"I wonder if Luke will be a ghost like Obi-wan was?"

Again, I haven't read the spoiler, I'm not saying whether or not that ends up being in the movie, whatever it says. But there's no way that person is part of the film.

I'd say there's a 99.99999% chance that he's got nothing to do with the movie. But I've never heard this theory before, and when I did, I was like, "Oh...ooooooooh."

Spoiler: show
I dont know. Him touching R2 in the trailers shows that he pretty alive. Of course, he could be killed off at some point and become the ghost. That wouldnt be shocking, that would make sense.

Alright, I clicked on the spoiler.

I'm pretty sure (spoiling for those not clicking on these last few spoilers)
Spoiler: show
We've seen Luke in the trailer and he's not a Force ghost. At least, not any kind of Force ghost we've seen before. I'm gonna say I don't buy it.

Well,
Spoiler: show
...there have been plenty of rumors of flashbacks in this film--even though that'd be pretty out-of-character for Star Wars--and that could be one of those.

Yea but you see the fire and destruction going around them in that scene that fits into some other footage from the trailers. IM not buying it but I a convinced he will die at some point. All of the original cast will at some point im sure.

Did you see the clips of Carrie Fisher on Kimmel's show this week? If they don't kill her in this movie, they're in trouble--she's not long for this world.

I think it's more likely that the
Spoiler: show
"something shocking" they keep implying would be something more in line with Luke going to the Dark Side or Luke killing innocents in some capacity or other.
But I have no idea. Just speculating myself.
