When they updated the website a few years ago (2007? 2008?) they just grabbed a whole bunch of data from fan sites for the lyrics and setlist sections, errors and all. For a while they even had the 1999 Bridge School "soundcheck" listed as a legitimate performance when I think that was more or less debunked as having been entirely made up. Whatever database they use to store the setlists displays every tag, regardless of how insignificant it is, as an individual song in its own right. They've cleaned it up a bit in recent years but it's still a mess.

But they'll defend the set lists even when uncut recordings prove otherwise. It will never be perfect.

The foo fighters release five new songs for download in light of the Paris attacks. pearl jam should and could do more of this.

Wasn't that what their countdown was for originally?

thanks for the head's up, these are pretty good tunes too. Iron Rooster, in particular.

Yes. Dave says that in the letter. They didn't just write and record 5 new songs for this in the past couple of weeks.

I know and I believe it's free, too. My point was this: why can't pearl jam occasionally toss an ep our way in between albums?

I wouldn't even care if it was a legit PEARL JAM studio recording, since these guys are never in the same place at the same time, unless their secretaries make the appointments. Just have each member flesh out their own songs and group them together. 5 songs... each from one band member.

Haven't one of these guys done their perennial tour interview yet in which they say they've got 5-7 ideas for songs that are a logical extension of (name of previous album)? Do I really need to read it when they'll probably just say what I just said? Is my life a series of questions about the making of Pearl Jam albums while the world around me churns in indifference?

If this were to be true, I'd be hoping for Michael Stipe.

I usually hate when a big band pulls in a big band friend for a track. That just screams trying to sell to a new demographic. I'd far rather they get a no name, like Eddie was on TotD and give someone a career break. I don't hold out much hope for that as it requires caring at the possible cost of sales.
Think I’m going to try being kind to everyone a chance.
