My two favorite shots we've seen so far remain the Falcon plowing through those trees and the look of abject terror on Finn's face when Kylo comes after him

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII: The Force Awakens (2015)
"There has been an awakening" is such an empty calorie "ominous tone" line, without much substance to call its own. It's sloppy enough to sound like it could have been lifted from the He Man movie, or be a line that wasn't quite clever enough for Pirates of the Carribean. But that would actually be fine without the "uh oh, it's a dumb line so let's fake it" overwrought delivery. It genuinely sounds like it should be played over the loud speaker at a renaissance fair haunted house.
It's certainly not a movie ruiner, and I like the dialog in the "it's all true" moment to figure it cancels out, but so far the villains in this have sounded more Marvel than Star Wars, and I have no interest in that.
Also, if I am fighting for my goddamn life and someone says "ok, NOW give it everything you've got," that's the first guy I'm shooting next.

I finally see what stip means about impact. You can feel every hit and explosion. It's tactile and real. Something ALL the films lacked. You didn't care in the original trilogy cos there was usually a yahoo! Afterwards. But this feels right.
Let's just hope he's got the story and the actors can live in the parts in a believable way.

It looks like all the surface elements are in place. Trick is now to make us care about the characters and enjoy seeing Han Chewie etc again without it feeling like a cheap glue to make us interested.

If I had to predict, I'd guess this will be about on a level with that first Abrams Star Trek movie, except this time it will also have more than just the most surfacey properties of it's franchise.stip wrote:People may not have noticed, but McP is slowly and carefully walking back some of his earlier skepticism.
So, fun and well constructed, but also weakened by a combination of over-reverence and sloppy storytelling choices.
