I liked it. on par with Daredevil? No. but that doesnt mean it wasnt great in its' own right.

killgrave was a spot on choice for the big bad and i loved how they explained his powers (origin and how they work).

i thought the writers did a great job weaving a story that intersected at different points to tie everything together.

to say i was shocked in how they introduced a little known character (outside of comic fans) such as nuke would be an understatement. Nuke is more a Captain America/wolverine foil.

i like that it draws upon the ultimate universes main theme of everyone getting experimented on as trying to recreate the Super Soldier project.

what didnt i like about it? seems like they still havent redeemed her all that much, maybe more of that in season 2. yes shes willing to do what it takes and that is needed a lot of the times in these situations but it didnt appear that she had much remorse for it. even the tear on the dock seemed a bit forced on her part as just a way to sell the possession. im not sure we needed much exposition of patsys mother. while a typical stage mom i think they could have hinted at what she did to patsy as a young child star and let the viewer piece the rest of it together.

i am sure ill think of a few others given time

I loved it. I'm not sure how I'd stack it up next to Daredevil. Daredevil was more fun because of the amazing fight sequences and because that show wasn't as relentlessly grim as JJ. But they're scratching different itches. JJ is really a character study. The action sequences are secondary, though
Spoiler: show
I did like her big fight with Luke Cage
. Her characterization (and Kilgraves) were both excellent. These were about as fully realized and believable people as we've ever seen in a comic book property, where you never once doubted a motivation, felt that choices were shoehorned into a plot, and you truly believed that you were inhabiting a world where super powers exist, and they would really dramatically impact the way people live their lives.

She is my favorite hero we've seen in the MCU. Just a flawless performance from top to bottom, and she strikes the right balance of being utterly unlikable while still making you want to root for her and making it clear why people would be loyal to her. She oozed a dark and damaged charisma.

The way the show dealt with themes like guilt and violation were very smart. Kilgrave is the MCU's best villain. I like that Jessica was not redeemed at the end, but that the seeds are planted and the people are in place who can help them grow. You don't want her arc to end.

This was about the most intelligent way I've seen themes like rape and abortion used in mainstream TV/cinema (within my experience, anyway). And Jessica and Trish has a perfectly drawn and realistic friendship.

It was more difficult viewing than Daredevil, and more challenging. Quite probably more rewarding, but less fun.

I just don't see how you can move these characters into the larger MCU just because the tone is so much different. They'll need one or two of their other defenders properties to lighten the mood just to bridge everything.

I also like that the MCU is using attempts to replicate the Captain America serum as the origin of most people's superpowers. It's far more 'believable than many other alternatives'

I'm 5 episodes in and I like this a lot more than Daredevil. Actually, I haven't had a tremendous pull to finish Daredevil (I'm 5 into that one too). Though, I like DD a lot, once I stopped I haven't felt that pull to rush back into it. JJ however, I can't stop thinking about. I'm pretty excited to get home from work and watch a couple more.

I'll get more elaborate once I've seen the whole thing. But I'm really digging this so far. It's not perfect but it's really engaging and a nice change of pace from big shiny blow up the world Marvel.

I finished JJ and it was fantastic. Very few complaints and all fairly nitpicky. Agree with most of what Stip said above.

Also, JJ got me excited to get back into DD. Just watched the 'Stick' episode (S1, E7) and that was outstanding. Probably my favorite episode of the series so far. Stip, I think you might be right about it getting better as it goes. I'll try to watch a couple more episodes tonight.
