It's usually not a good idea to take notes on the way the Toronto Maple Leafs run things, but when they decided to rebuild the team they were completely upfront and blunt about it by saying things like "This is going to be painful, but it's what we need to do to build this into a franchise the fans can be proud of again." The turnaround from even the most short-sighted of Leafs fans was amazing because they believed that management truly believes in the plan. The Braves are kind of doing the opposite at this point.

It's a little like trying to defend the Josh Donaldson trade.

Tigers just traded some spare parts pitchers for Cameron Maybin.

So... Cameron Maybin has made it back to Detroit, and Cabrera is still there. So, that's cool.

the Braves will meanwhile staff an entire roster of position players that are actually pitchers.

Can never have too much pitching on your roster?

The Brewers have nearly traded half of their 25 man roster in less than one year.

Well, if anything, when it comes to overpaying for risky, aging pitchers and signing them to contracts which will tie their hands financially for years to come, the Tigers have shown that they're the best in the business.

It's kind of uncharted territory. He's already four or five years out from Tommy John surgery, and last year was a downgrade. How long can a pitcher last after Tommy John?

you guys watched Jordan Zimmermann last year, no?

i guess if you're ignoring the reduced k rate, increased bb's, an era and fip worse than kyle Hendricks, and minimal 3 war on a pitcher showing signs of decline on a surgically repaired elbow, this deal is awesome.

Yeah, he's 100% a platoon player. Giving him even semi-regular at bats against righties would be really stupid. That's why I think it's funny that so many people are suggesting this means one of the others will be traded.

his decreased k rate is only compared to 2014, which was his best year for k/9. his 2015 k/9 was still better than 2013 and 2012 so it wasn't the regression that people make it out to be.

the decreased velocity is the red flag for me. and his fip was the worst hit's been since tommy john, but his ERA last year was better than hendricks so back off on that one
