Saw Full Metal Jacket at the theatre yesterday. First time seeing it and I thought it was pretty great. I would say that the last quarter of the movie kinda of squandered the whole things potential though.

John Dies in the End. Reeks of purposely trying to be "so bad its good". Its funny to see Giamatti in it though, acting opposite the lead guy who has all the acting ability of a tree stump. Really interesting to see just how much difference great acting makes. At first I thought that this was his relative's movie or something, and that was the only reason he showed up in this shitfest and co-produced it, but it turns out he actually likes these movies.

The only part I liked was the dog driving a truck through a house.

Don Coscarelli also directed "The Beastmaster", which I can't believe hasn't been remade.

Yeah, Nicolas Cage was perfect in that movie. I read that Tom Hanks was originally slated to play Charlie and Donald...I think that could've been a disaster.

Finally got around to "Cloud Atlas". I loved it. Halle Berry came close to taking me out of a few of the story arcs but ultimately I thought it was brilliant for how ambitious it was.

Watched "Silver Linings Playbook". Not best picture material and not really the deep dive into the familial challenges of mental illness many made it out to be, but pretty good. I still have Django as my favorite from last year.

Loved it. Very reminiscent of the best of Woody Allen, but very much for and about twenty-somethings right now. I have a feeling this will be a new rainy-day movie for me. I'm gonna throw this thing on a lot. A lot, a lot, when I'm stuck in doors and need a friend.

I have a problem with that statement in relation to movies that describe big city socialites in their 20's. It's like the young folk in the Wendy's commercials. I don't feel like it defines me, but then again I can be anti-social at intervals.

I'll definitely have to see it, but I do like the quote in the trailer, "So what do you do?" ...."It's complicated...because I don't really do it."

Yeah, the movie isn't out to define anyone or anything. It's not a "voice of generation" kind of movie. And it pokes just as much fun at "big city socialites" as it gives voice to them. And, honestly, Frances is anything but a socialite.

I just meant that, as a 33 year old who spent his late twenties in New York City (in fact, turned 30 in NYC), I was able to relate to this film and the humor of this film more so than say, Manhattan. Or even Annie Hall. Though, I think Annie Hall is superior film, Frances Ha is much closer to me. I was able to identify more with its brand of neurosis.

The dictator is a really bad movie. He's doing the ridiculous Borat-style stuff, but most of the time to other actors, who know what coming. However, the last blooper in the credits is hilarious. Fast forward to it on Netflix if you haven't seen it.

I kinda liked this. I liked the "Evil Dead"ness of it, but an actor with a lot of personality is what it takes to make a movie like this really work. Replace the lead actor with Bruce Campbell and this movie would have been killer.

I think the Borat clips in the Ali G show, and then the movie, were pretty great. I think the shtick is at its best when it highlights the absurdity of Western social customs, not when it's just being over-the-top gross and weird. I haven't liked anything else he's done.
