Re: Post Random Music-Related Thoughts You Have
I was thinking recently about bands that have used live recordings as the base tracks for studio recordings (a la Better Man from the Atlanta 1994-04-03 show) and realised that the only examples I could think of were from the mid 90's:
- Radiohead - The Bends - My Iron Lung (Astoria 1994-05-27, only vocals overdubbed)
- R.E.M. - New Adventures in Hi-Fi - most tracks at various locations on 1995-1996 tour.
Does anyone know of any others?...

Neil Young's Rust Never Sleeps and Time Fades Away were albums of brand new songs recorded live but that's probably not quite what you were looking for. I don't think they were presented as 'live albums' however, simply new Neil Young albums.

The REM one is just sound checks, isn't it?ridleybradout wrote:I was thinking recently about bands that have used live recordings as the base tracks for studio recordings (a la Better Man from the Atlanta 1994-04-03 show) and realised that the only examples I could think of were from the mid 90's:

I know I've read of other instances, but there just wasn't enough tape rolling in the first 20 years of modern pop. Nobody knew they'd be able to sell that shit for decades and decades to come.

It was recorded at live shows, soundchecks, backstage & in a studio. The liner notes tell you where each song was recorded.McParadigm wrote:The REM one is just sound checks, isn't it?

"soft" is not how I'd describe the spot I have for Ellie Goulding.

This is from the beginning of a Monkees episode. I remember seeing it as a kid. Zappa also appears in the Monkees movie.tragabigzanda wrote:My dad just sent this to me. Of all the links my dad shares, this is near the top of the list:
