After Earth is getting awful reviews. It gives me great pleasure to watch the Smith family fail in the movies. But not Shyamalan. I always liked him. That's sad.

There are reports that a large percentage of those negative reviews come from confused moviegoers who thought they had purchased tickets to the third installment of Richard Linklater's Before Sunrise series.Harry Lime wrote:After Earth is getting awful reviews. I'm the opposite. Shyamalan is terrible. Smith is a good actor when he's not doing his action star thing.Harry Lime wrote:After Earth is getting awful reviews. It gives me great pleasure to watch the Smith family fail in the movies. But not Shyamalan. I always liked him. That's sad.

Why Smith passed on Django:turned2black wrote:I'm the opposite. Shyamalan is terrible. "Django wasn't the lead, so it was like, I need to be the lead. The other character [Christoph Waltz's Oscar-winning King Schultz] was the lead!" Smith told Entertainment Weekly. "I was like 'No, Quentin, please, I need to kill the bad guy!"
Good. Didn't want him in it anyway. And how self centered is that statement? Can't ruin his movie star hero image.

Actually, he's right. That's a pretty big structural problem with Tarantino's script. http://blogs.indiewire.com/shadowandact ... ted-django#
(and while it's unlikely that structural problems were the main motivation behind his "I need to kill the bad guy" comment, it does raise an interesting point about the bizarre choices made in that script)

Re: What Movies are you watching?
I didn't have a big problem with Django not killing DiCaprio, so Will is probably still wrong, but when and how he died was a big problem for me.

Maybe. But in the end Schultz killing Candie was the more poetic choice.
