I always felt like I should really be into STP, but I never really have been. I remember being into No. 4 for a while as a teenager. Now that he's dead I feel more compelled to listen for some reason. I get what trag is saying about STP just kinda being there, but I think I kinda dig that.

True talk, and not trying to take away from people's thoughts today, but: for some reason, I never got into STP. I knew all of their singles that were on the radio, but I never bought an album, couldn't name all of their albums, and can't name a single non-album song. When Velvet Revolver was a thing, I didn't get the hype. It's odd, too, because it seems like a band like STP would have been right in my wheelhouse.

I mean no disrespect to the deceased or those who felt a deep connection to his music, but...Yea. I really enjoyed their first three albums when they were new, and will occasionally toss one on. But what I loved about STP was the riffs, BOB's 90s production, and Weiland's voice. But his lyrics never seemed to have any substance, and the band never positioned themselves as being particularly aligned with any sort of message or cause, so they always just struck me as a deftly talented commercial band full of great songs, but devoid of any deeper meaning or chance for connection.

that's where I was. Of the A list grunge bands they were definitely the ones I cared about the least.
