I saw STP a few times during the 90s. Fun shows and he was a heck of frontman.
I saw them once at a festival show (HFStival in DC), and it was a good show for that environment. Them and RATM were the headliners.
I was never a huge fan of the STP, but they certainly have a handful of songs I really like.
That was my experience as well. I went to that festival for Filter and STP and had fun until the clouds and rain came through. Everyone was suddenly soaked and freezing and the day seemed like a loss, but STP were what a lot of people seemed to be waiting for in the early evening. Then they were delayed and Blue Man Group took the stage unannounced when they weren't all that well known to kill time. The crowd grew restless and annoyed, but when they finally took the stage and filled their slot with hit after hit it was fantastic. Scott was on point and his voice sounded fine. An hour of solid rock n' roll. The only time I'd ever see 'em.
And then it all fell apart. I saw Army of Anyone in Baltimore years later and got to meet Richard and the DeLeo brothers. They couldn't have been nicer, more down to earth, chill people. Polite, kind, funny. I'll always remember that and will forever be a fan of anything those guys release.
Seeing STP this summer with Chester was a let down, but at least a small celebration of some cool rock music that was always in the background of our youth. I kept thinking I was watching a cover band, and how it would've sounded so much better with Scott on stage.
Flipping through news articles online, there's a bit from Dean DeLeo from last spring where he said Scott disappeared long ago and the person that he'd known was no longer there. Its always been expected, but still a big bummer now that its happened.
Rest in peace.
