But it also sounds like someone avoiding the reports and then saying "I don't know what happened so I can't say anything bad about him". Well, you could have read it, and in these situations where you can't prove it, the victim is almost never lying, numbers wrote:Obviously if the reports are true Chapman is a piece of shit and should be suspended for at least half the season, but, he denies it, the cops never charged anyone with anything, and he is a former player of Dusty's. Dusty could have worded things better, but I wouldn't get the pitchforks out for him just yet.cutuphalfdead wrote:numbers wrote:Are you referring to his comments about Chapman? Q. What do you know about the guy?
DUSTY BAKER: Oh, he’s a heck of a guy. I mean, a heck of a guy. I’ll go on record and say I wouldn’t mind having Chapman. No, no, he is a tremendous young man with a great family, mom and dad, and what he went through to get here and what his family had to go through to get here. I was with him through the whole process.
There was a couple times when I had to stop him from quitting or going back to Cuba because he was lonely for his family. So I went through a lot of stuff with Chapman. I got nothing but love for the young man.
Q. Were you surprised by — I don’t know how much you read about the allegations.
DUSTY BAKER: I didn’t read it.
Q. Are you surprised that this popped up?
DUSTY BAKER: I don’t read most of the stuff you guys write. No, I don’t.
Q. I believe you. I didn’t know if you heard anything.
DUSTY BAKER: I heard it from my son. I mean, who’s to say the allegations are true, number one. And who’s to say what you would have done or what caused the problem.
That last bit reeks of being a wife beater apologist.

All I'm saying is between the things he's said about Chapman and about getting faster by getting blacker, I'm reading between the lines and coming to the conclusion that Dusty Baker is probably a piece of shit.

Re: MLB
I only saw basically the stuff he said about how he thinks Chapman was a good guy, I didnt see the other stuff until you posted it. Terrible choices of words by Baker there, but we all know people that are basically good guys that have said some stupid shit before or have some bad opinions. Most of my friends are complete neanderthals when it comes to politics and stuff like that, but I know them and know they are good guys. You dont hear alot of people in the game talking about what an asshole Dusty Baker is(at least I dont remember seeing that,) like you do with other players/mangers/etc.cutuphalfdead wrote:All I'm saying is between the things he's said about Chapman and about getting faster by getting blacker, I'm reading between the lines and coming to the conclusion that Dusty Baker is probably a piece of shit.

Turns out he's getting 4/56. It's almost like agents put false rumours out from some "mystery team" to try to drive up prices and then their clients conveniently take a "lower offer" because "it just wasn't the right fit."numbers wrote:Is that 4/80 deal that's been rumored for Zobrist legit? That seems like an insane overpay.

Say what you want about the Braves approach, but this looks like a he'll of a return for Shelby Miller.

And they got there by signing Greinke and then making one of the worst trades I've ever seen. So... congrats, I guess.cutuphalfdead wrote:The Diamondbacks are now contenders for the NL East.

I sometimes think it's stupid that teams start negotiations with such ludicrous demands, but then a team like Arizona comes along and they're like "Hmmmm ok sure!" and I kind of understand it.Chris_H_2 wrote:fun fact: the Braves demanded Kris Bryant in return for Shelby Miller

Give me a breakdown of the return Atlanta got. Re: MLB
Ender Inciarte is a good young outfielder with five years of control. Straight up, Inciarte for Miller probably would have been a pretty even trade. But then Arizona threw in Top 100 pitching prospect Aaron Blair to make it a relatively understandable overpay. Then they added 2015 first overall pick Dansby Swanson to make it hilarious.cutuphalfdead wrote:Give me a breakdown of the return Atlanta got. The Diamondbacks gave up the kind of package that should have landed someone like Sonny Gray or Carlos Carrasco. Instead, they got Shelby Miller.

Even after all this, I don't think Arizona is the favorite in that division. I feel like they are doing what the Padres did last year but there isn't any escaping it if it doesn't take right away like SD did.
