So apparently Jimmy Page is in town for a fundraising event, and yesterday he bounced around a few record stores in town. One of them being a store that I visit on a weekly basis. THE DAY BEFORE he popped into that shop, I happened to be in there buying a copy of Zeppelin 2. How fuggin' lame would that have been if I was standing there buying Zeppelin 2 and Jimmy Page walks in. I would have just dug a grave right there and buried myself.

Awesome story! Better yet if you had no idea who he was and started blabbing about how Whole Lotta Love is fucking amazing.

There would have been a decent chance. I had no idea what he looked like an older gentleman until I looked him up.

When I walked out though, some street punk hipster walked by and goes, "Duuuuuuuuuuude, great fucking album".

No shit, that's why I bought it.

I bought all of my classic rock albums from the same used records shop many years ago as I was starting my collection.... back when a used LP was actually a few bucks (!). Anyways, I would go in there and load up on the Zep catalog, plus the Beatles, Stones, and I would cherry pick the big albums from old artists (Dark Side, Highway 61, Harvest, Rumours, Electric Ladyland) and I still remember the crusty old asshole who worked there making a snide comment about my selections... "it's like someone told you which albums to buy and you're just coming in with your shopping list".

i'll be a regular poster in this thread now as I have finally gotten a new turntable after many years of not having one..quick story: I owned my own record store in the early to late 90s...still the best job of my life...anyway, I always hope I get that guy at the counter that says something like that only so I can lambaste him from head to toe

It's wild to think we've surpassed physical music formats, but, really, they were really only commercially successful for, what, 60 years? (I'm thinking 1920s phonographs up until the introduction of CDs in the 1980s). Digital has already dominated for 30 years or so, and there have been leaps within that time frame (CDs to hard discs to streaming music, for example) which couldn't have been predicted from the start, so I bet there's still some advances coming down the pipe in the next few decades. But, no, nothing physical.
