Considering the slide the team has been in lately, I felt lucky that the first (and probably only) game I got to go to this year was Lester's one-hitter on Friday night. The place was humming!

Spoke too soon! Don't worry, there's still at least a week and a half until this team sucks the life out of you for the summer.

I was on the Lackey bandwagon - call it the reverse lock - things had gotten so bad, that I was confident that he'd be fine this year....

The biggest surprise - I think - is Buchholz.......7-0 and an ERA at 1.73. I knew he had it in him, but I did not expect Cy-Young dominance.

amazing considering Ellsbury has sucked all year...I thought they'd be better than most people, but if this is where they were gonna be, I'd have thought Ellsbury was doing 2011 all over again

plenty of time to screw this up. cherington needs to get aggressive to send a message that they're not complacent where they're at. who are possibly available pitchers (RP & SP)? eric gagne? bobby jenks maybe?

the problem they have is that they probably aren't good enough to go all the way, they shouldn't give up any of their top prospects, and the best way for them to get better is to pull a Dodgers and get themselves right back in trouble budgetwise

they'll make a minor move or two, but I don't see them making a big splash

If the pick up a 3rd starter and a Left Fielder they have as good a chance as anyone else.

maybe if they finally ditch Salty and make Ross the everyday catcher

I'm still not sold though, and I don't want to give up anything of value on the farm

For sure, but I still wouldn't give up anything substantial and mortgage the future.

Absolutely. I'm not suggesting they trade any top prospects, but if you could get either of those things for a mid-level prospect, or someone like Iglesias or Lavarnway, I'd do it.

I'd stay pretty much pat at the deadline unless there's something too good to pass up....this isn't the year for a big deal. Just stay the course.
