Well, socialism involves doing things and libertarianism involves not doing things so I'm gonna go ahead and disagree with you there.

To me it seems the biggest changes in the past few years has been socially progressive ideas, none of which are due to the republicans having a hold at the state and local levels. So, im just not sure what they have all benefited from other than digging their heels in and major political posturing.

i still think they are a mess and need real leadership before they can be taken seriously anymore. When the speaker of the house steps down because he can't deal with it, you know its a shit storm.

Honestly, it really doesn't matter. There's only been a discrepancy between the popular vote and the electoral vote, what, twice?

This graphic is staggering to me. How can the GOP beat these odds (nationally) without drastic changes? I mean essentially all their numbers are shrinking when all the Dems numbers are increasing. I think even the Mormon church has admitted recently that their numbers are essentially flat.

As people said a few pages ago, it comes down to participation at times. Also, that graph is a little wonky, I think; surely, there are way more Evangelical Christians in the US than people who don't affiliate with a religion, so that +46 equals way more votes than the +36 on the other side.

913 seats in state House/Senates combined (giving Republicans about 4,100/7,000ish)
30 state legislature chambers (there are 99 total)

They have full control of 24 state governments (governor and both houses) (Democrats control 7)
They have full control of 30 state legislatures

um... no not really, I was actually getting that confused with the stupid primary process (Iowa and New Hampshire especially), which is another stupid thing.

I think it forces candidates to spend time and energy on smaller states with voters with higher voting power. If it were truly 1 person = 1 vote, seems like they would pander to states like California a lot more. I gotta think that campaigns would be run very differently without the Electoral College.

Plus we wouldn't have all this red state/blue state nonsense that's mostly a myth anyway.

Serious question: What has this gotten them? What have they been able to accomplish as far as a republican or conservative agenda.
