So we know that the old civil war, The Dance with Dragos, is important in foreshadowing current Westerosi events. I came across this interesting tidbit:

The Pact of Ice and Fire was an alliance between Houses Stark and Targaryen arranged during the Dance of the Dragons.

History
At the start of the civil war, Prince Joffrey Velaryon flew to the North to gain House Stark for the cause of his mother, Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen. Part of the alliance called for a royal princess to marry into the family of Lord Cregan Stark.[1] Lord Roderick Dustin led the Winter Wolves to join the blacks, while House Manderly also contributed knights to Rhaenyra's side.[2] Lord Cregan himself led a host to King's Landing near the end of the war, but they arrived after the death of King Aegon II Targaryen.[3]

Cregan briefly governed in the capital during the Hour of the Wolf.[4] Although a royal princess never did marry into the Starks, Cregan gained many rewards for his support of King Aegon III Targaryen.[5]

Now this story is all about fulfilling old promises (White Harbor's pact with the Starks and how that leads Manderly to act with Davos, Ned's promise to Lyanna, the Prince that was Promised, etc, etc, etc) so I find it interesting that during the dance with dragons there was a promise that a Targ princess would marry into House Stark and that promise went unfulfilled.
