So much this. As much as I crap on Backspacer, it's an album of few solos. I like that, especially in songs like "Got Some". Also, like chud / spenno said, IMcParadigm wrote:Sleight of Hand? I dunno.
I don't really care for their solos, so I prefer when they either skip them or use them as sort of interludes. The more "rock solo" it gets, the more unremarkable it becomes.

You just uncovered an element of that record that I liked and never recognized.darth_vedder wrote:So much this. As much as I crap on Backspacer, it's an album of few solos. I like that, especially in songs like "Got Some". Also, like chud / spenno said, IMcParadigm wrote:Sleight of Hand? I dunno.

For that reason, it's a pretty interesting Mike album. Next time you listen, focus on Mike. It's still a meh album, but that particular aspect is kinda cool.McParadigm wrote:You just uncovered an element of that record that I liked and never recognized.darth_vedder wrote:So much this. Backspacer. Oh how I adore Backspacer. When someone says they don't like Backspacer I know one of two things have to be true. Number one, They are a liar. Number two they didn't like the sitcom Taxi.

Re: PJ Song with the best guitar solo
I'm a complete idiot and actually searched for where the whole "patterns" thing came from (I remember something along those lines too). I couldn't find anything until I rewatched the Backspacer making-of promo and it turns out that Edward Vedder talks about Mike doing some of his best work playing "patterns" for the album.tragabigzanda wrote:Isn't there an interview where they talk about this?
