Re: The Running Thread
Ran 12 miles on Monday afternoon.
Was gonna do 7 on Tuesday, but came out super strong and turned it into 11. Which I ran in 91 mins. Which is absurd for me. PR. Sucks that it was a training run and not a race. Would have been my first half marathon under 1hr 50mins if I'd kept going.
I'm taking today off after 2 miles on my feet and 12 on a bike yesterday.

Re: The Running Thread
Went back to the McDowells yesterday and did 15 in perfect weather (about 55 with blasting sunshine). Trail was packed with mountain bikers and runners. Finished in 1:56. Did 6 6-minute mile repeats on the treadmill this morning and I'm pretty much toast now. Doubtful that I'll go back out for a P.M. run.
Hope you had a good day, oasisfan35!

Re: The Running Thread
Well it certainly was an experience. Very well run race, especially for its size ~24750. There was a traffic accident that delayed the start a bit and fuck was it chilly, got over the start around 7:31 and kind of forgot how crowded a race can be especially on the corners. Tried to settle in to a planned pace but there was a lot of weaving goin' on, plus I thought it was wise to hit all the hydration stations since, well this entire distance is an unknown. Kudos to Philly for implementing an app for runner tracking, it didn't update with every noted distance but it certainly made things easier as a spectator and definitely finding your party in the legit sea of people at the end. Saw my lady on the sidelines at about mile six so I still kind of looked like a runner at that point and a few of my good friends surprised the shit out of me during the last mile.turned2black wrote:Hope you had a good day, oasisfan35!
As for my performance, I had to piss when the race started but I held out until the half/full split supposing shorter lines at the port-o-lets where I guessed correctly. Hit all the hydration stations which certainly effects my overall pace but my half-time was my best 'race' effort thus far. Somewhere in the twenties my left IT band tightened up like a mother-fucker which didn't help my pace either but stopping was never a consideration even as I watched people totally breaking down over the last stretch. I didn't nail my predicted pace but I wasn't too far off given my first marathon... and that makes me absolutely want to run another one.

Re: The Running Thread
Had a good, but not great week. Only one trail run (15 miles on Wednesday), but I was pretty happy to run all four days of Thanksgiving weekend, although only one run was more than 10 miles (half marathon route today).
Also, picked up some New Balance 1500s for half price on Black Friday.

In the mid-30s this morning. My gear made me sweat too much and I was cold for the last couple miles. Still, 16 miles in just under 2 hours. Not bad.

I measure my runs in songs.
Last night I did a 6-songer, through my hood to see all the xmas lights.
For those scoring at home, about 25 minutes and probably like 2 miles.

Re: The Running Thread
Pretty sketchy couple of weeks. Missed a couple of days because my two youngest kids and my wife have been sick. I did do ~22 miles last Sunday on a trail I have never been on before. Unfortunately I did the last 11 without any water because the bathrooms/water fountain that I had planned on refilling my handheld at was under repair. Did my 10-mile canal run on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week, both times in 71 minutes. Gonna hit another trail after work today.

My worst runs have always been linked to dehydration, it shot up my priority list real quick.turned2black wrote:Pretty sketchy couple of weeks. Took some time off running after the marathon but biked not to be a total slouch, finally got out Wednesday night. Kept the mileage low breaking in some new kicks but legs felt good. I'd like to start running some of the trails around my area, glad I simply retired my road running shoes and didn't toss 'em.
There's also a Winter Warrior Challenge this January which I may do again. t2b, are you contemplating a streak attempt?

I'm in, just thinking of what activities to throw down given my schedule. Signed up for the winter challenge as well, ought to be good reinforcement early on.turned2black wrote:Yes. Let's do it!oasisfan35 wrote:t2b, are you contemplating a streak attempt?

15 on my favorite trail yesterday. Cold, overcast day. Finished in 2:14, which ain't bad. Saw some mountain goats. Unusual to see them this time of year. They generally only make to this part of the Valley when they are desperate in the summer.
I'm probably not gonna start until the Jan. 1st this time.oasisfan35 wrote:I'm in, just thinking of what activities to throw down given my schedule. That's my plan as well, give some time for trial and error schedule wise and also the holidays can always be a clusterfuck at times.turned2black wrote:15 on my favorite trail yesterday. I'm in if we do this. I have lost significant training time this past year and need to get back at it. Too soft around the torso area.

A bit of an uproar over this in the ultra/trail running community.

Sage Canaday, three-time Speedgoat 50K champion, course-record holder and winner of the 2014 North Face Endurance Challenge Championships, mirrored Gray’s sentiments in an email exchange on Monday.
“Let’s set a precedent here and now for a [more] clean sport,” Canaday wrote. “No more EPO cheats! Lifetime ban to those that have been caught with high profile PEDs. Stop him from entry into MUT Running races and results. He’s had his years of fame and fortune and screwed over countless others in the process. He destroyed dreams and repeatedly lied and cheated his way to hundreds of thousands of dollars. No second chances when one abuses a heavy hitting PED like EPO.”

For the streak I think I'll go with a 5K, 10 miles on the bike or 40 minutes of resistance training and am looking forward to getting started.

What kind are you looking for? Races? Training tips?oasisfan35 wrote:t2b, any particular recommendations for marathons?
For races, I know there's a shitload of spring marathons in the Coastal Virginia area. Also, a friend of mine has done 300+ marathons and she says the Sugarloaf Marathon in Maine is her favorite. If I remember correctly, that'd be about a 5-hour drive for you.
If you're looking for a destination race, Big Sur International is an obvious choice, but it's not PR friendly. Registration closed a long time ago, but they have travel packages still available. There are also a bunch of Spring marathons along the Oregon and Washington coast that are fast and beautiful including the Newport Marathon.

Re: The Running Thread
Indeed I was asking about races. I have heard very good things about Sugarloaf and had it penciled in as my first marathon until life happened. Funnily I also looked at Big Sur because I will be in CA in April but logistically it just doesn't work, I was actually going to get entry through the Boomer Esiason Foundation.turned2black wrote:What kind are you looking for? Right now I have the PA Grand Canyon marked down, it's a ways out so I am considering one before but I've heard the area is fantastic.
