How durable can the feels given by seeing old pals again for another big adventure last?

Can't say for sure for a few years
I don't see that as being an issue. This is a transitional movie, the story is being handed on to a new generation. And that's good.

Well, i liked it.

I feel a little bit overwhelmed by a few things...i didnt like finn at all. I dont care about him, i dont care about him and rey...he should have been killed by the end of the movie, and make Kylo Ren more a villain....Ren is ok, but he seems more bratty than a real villain....and WTF?? the scene with Han is so obvious and kinda lame.
JJ kinda does the same that with Star Trek and puts references of A new hope and Empire here and there...so, we have them all on the millenium flacon again with a droid with a message for the fuckin resistance...yeah, we been there. He even thinks its funny to see things like the old chessboard or another scene in a bar. And that little Yoda thing? I hope it doesnt come back.

The good part is that this feels Star Wars again. The sets are real, the bad guys are fuckin violent, there is people dying and there is a sense of realism again that was lost in the cgi world of the prequels....and there is good acting again. Harrison Ford is fuckin Han Solo again....he rules.
Rey is great...i love that she is becoming the new luke, and i guess she is clearly Luke´s daughter....The humor is pretty good. The stormtroopers are cool again....and Luke is going to be amazing.

This was from the one movie reviewer that I generally trust. This is the only review I've read

I think what a review like that misses (from my perspective) is that the first star wars movie NEEDED to do this in order to rehabilitate the franchise and recapture the original magic. From all accounts this was completely successful in that respect, and once people care about the product again (in that classic way) you can start to play with what it means. But I don't think you can start from that perspective--especially after the prequels.

There's a lot of the Star Wars you love in Force Awakens, but also a lot of the Star Wars you think you loved but never really existed.

I think this is true and it's to Abrams credit that he's pulled that off.

I watched the whole OT last night, the theatrical cuts. Going to see this again this afternoon.
I'm pretty comfortable ranking it in among them.

Can we agree it's by an immeasurable distance a better film than any of the prequels?
No doubt about that at all for me.

Before we all jump on what's wrong with it we should remember the OT films have their problems too. Some of the same ones too

I think I just would have liked the story to branch out a little more, rather than be a homage to ANH.

Hey zeb

Reys 'force trip' or vision or whatever it was.
What did you make of it? Was that her being awakened to the force?
Did Luke leave that lightsaber there for her to find? Is that what was calling her?

So many questions about that bit

that it's a direct lift and composition of the OT story & elements, as has been said I think it needs that to start off with that. Everything is now set up and the next director is great with telling a story so we're gonna get a lot of questions answered and the plot and lay of the intergalactic landscape filled out I think. (Meaning the First order and their motivations as well as Snoke & the dark side stuff).
Not only that we'll have Luke training Rey. On the fly no doubt but that whole arc is gonna be wonderful!

I'd hazard a guess and say "Yes". Her mastery of the Force came on pretty quickly for someone with no training, so you'd have to think that she was able to level up so quickly because of some external "Awakening".

As for Luke saber....not so sure.
