i like iglesias right now and think he and middlebrooks and/or drew could platoon.

they should deal salty for whatever they can get. that's not to say they need to make a big splash, they just need to turnover his roster spot b/c he doesn't add much to this team.

If you trade Salty and Ross gets hurt all you have is Lavarnway. I'm not against trading Salty but you need to bring in a major league quality backup through if you get rid of Salty.

amazing considering Ellsbury has sucked all year...I thought they'd be better than most people, but if this is where they were gonna be, I'd have thought Ellsbury was doing 2011 all over again
plenty of time to screw this up. cherington needs to get aggressive to send a message that they're not complacent where they're at. who are possibly available pitchers (RP & SP)? eric gagne? bobby jenks maybe?
the problem they have is that they probably aren't good enough to go all the way, they shouldn't give up any of their top prospects, and the best way for them to get better is to pull a Dodgers and get themselves right back in trouble budgetwise

they'll make a minor move or two, but I don't see them making a big splash
If the pick up a 3rd starter and a Left Fielder they have as good a chance as anyone else.
For sure, but I still wouldn't give up anything substantial and mortgage the future.
Absolutely. I'm not suggesting they trade any top prospects, but if you could get either of those things for a mid-level prospect, or someone like Iglesias or Lavarnway, I'd do it.
I wouldn't give up Iglesias.

How's that Melky Cabrera deal working out?
Not well. He's still got roughly 11 months to make up for a rough few weeks.
Good luck with that
.919 OPS the last month. That'll make up for a slow start!

I would actually be curious to know if there's some kind of clause in his contract that voids it if he's caught. I don't remember hearing anything about that.

If I could get a powerhitting LF or a decent 3rd starter for him and 1 or 2 other midlevel prospects, I would. The presence of Boogarts makes Iglesias somewhat expendable.

When is Bogarts projected to be major league ready?

it sounds like they want to move him to Pawtucket (from Portland). So if thats the case, with Iglesias playing some amazing d at third. I say trade salty, move middlebrooks to 1st when Ross needs a day off and have Napoli catch. That's what I meant by salty being a waste of a roster spot, bc the drop-off in d from he to Napoli can't be much, but the production with the bat is already a wide margin.

I don't think Napoli is going to catch again for fear it will accelerate his hip issue.

If boogarts progresses as he has thus far, he should be in the majors by next season

It's enjoyable to watch the Sox these days. Every time Nap is up I feel like a home run is coming.

Big Papi going deep at Jankee Stadium is one of the best things in sports.

There are only three Sox players hitting above .300 right now: Iglesias, Papi, Pedroia. And Iglesias has only 53 at bats.

Meanwhile....

Buchholz 8-0, 1.62 ERA

Lester 6-2, 3.53 ERA

Lackey 3-5, 2.96 ERA

No time to get into the bullpen, but clearly pitching has got to be the surprising bright spot here.

Dempster's 2-6 too but I feel like he's pitched better than that (even with an era just shy of 4.5)

Yup, I only had a few minutes to gather some quick stats, but very true regarding Dempster.

Dempster has been very good, he hasnt gotten much run support and one or two bad outings have ballooned his numbers.
