Re: STAR WARS SPOILER THREAD. SPOILERS WITHIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So basically:
Rey = Luke
Finn = Han Solo
BB8 = R2
Kylo = Anakin
Luke = Obi Wan
Snoke = the Emperor
The Old Orange Lady that looked like the kid from Jerry Maguire = Yoda
Did I miss anyone?

Re: STAR WARS SPOILER THREAD. SPOILERS WITHIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
never thought of that
3. Why exactly was Rey left on Jakku?
Again, you can pretty much piece together a story from the lightsaber flashback: Rey was taken from Luke's Jedi training course at a young age and hidden somewhere safe from Kylo Ren's revenge. But why dump her on a random desert planet? Was it just because Luke himself was dumped on his dad's desert planet, and he thought it might be character-building for her?
What exactly was the plan here, and was someone ever going to retrieve her? Luke, you got a lotta 'splaining to do.
10 burning questions from the movie

Re: STAR WARS SPOILER THREAD. SPOILERS WITHIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I take these movies for what they are. I don't dissect the hell out of them, and don't treat them as something that should be held up to the best products in cinematographic history. They're purely for entertainment, and are meant to appeal to both kids and adults.
This movie did just that. It was incredibly well made. It was entertaining as hell. And it kept me engaged. It was fresh and not over the top. I thought Abrams was perfect with his minimalist use of CGI, and used it to supplement rather than substitute. He exposed Lucas for just how shitty a director he is.
As for the characters, I was relieved they had natural dialogue. Sure, there were corny parts -- that's what Star Wars is. But it wasn't hokey. And thank god there was no pandering to a young crowd with characters like Jar Jar or the ewoks.
But who puts a fucking lever/handle on an outside wall 100 feet above the ground and 20 feet below the nearest walkway above?

Mark Hamill is such a shitty actor, I wonder how many times they had to film that last scene.

BTW, I would be shocked if Rey and *Kylo are NOT brother and sister.

thanks for the reminder...the shaft..it looks exactly like the shaft Luke falls down in Empire...same light patterns on the far side especially..
the torture room is also exactly the one Han gets fried in, in Empire, and the flower shaped/geometric desk behind them is in A new hope.
And yeah, I'm thinking Rey & Ben are brother and sister too
(his names Ben)

I think my favorite scene of the movie was the fleet of TIE fighters against that sun backdrop -- so cool

This is a lovely baton pass.
Did Carrie have a stroke? Why does she talk like that?
Love the 3 new protagonists. If you don't like Finn, you probably h8 all black people. If he turns out to be Lando's son, I'll h8 all people regardless of creed or color.
BB8>R2. Fucking adorable.
Han and Leia would have a better looking kid, right? Christ.
Snoke is dumb. Looks like fucking Crispin Glover's Grendel.
No tits in this one either. I'm beginning to lose hope.

Re: STAR WARS SPOILER THREAD. SPOILERS WITHIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
just about the circle jerk over BB8
R2 is the secret hero in ALL the Star Wars films...he gets them out of every jam theyre in, in every film...look back and you'll see.
BB8 will never be as loved, useful and important as R2.

Re: STAR WARS SPOILER THREAD. SPOILERS WITHIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
was leia actually played by carrie fisher, or was that bad cgi?
really enjoyed it though. like many have said, it could have used some more creativity in some of the plot lines, but it was very well done. it was very much star wars.
