These were some of my favorite songs released this year based on play counts. The albums they come from probably correspond with many of my favorites. Its not a top ten list but fuck it.
Majorette-Beach House
I Shot An Arrow-Murder By Death
Milkman-Bully
Trying-Bully
No Sympathy For the Devil-Public Enemy
I Love You Honeybear-Father John Misty
River-Leon Bridges
Mural-Lupe Fiasco
How Much A Dollar Cost-Kendrick Lamar
Am I Still The One For You?-Ike Reilly
Out of the Woods- Ryan Adams (T Swift Cover)
The Day Is My Enemy-The Prodigy
Dark Bird Is Home-The Tallest Man On Earth
Repeat-Lou Barlow
Living Zoo-Built To Spill
When I'm Blind-Built To Spill
Velveteen-The Mynabirds
I figured I would give some stuff that hadn't caught my attention another chance to stand out, but it appears that nothing much has really changed insofar as what I imagined my top ten would be when I last posted a bunch of stuff that I liked from this year. So, without further ado, and numbered, but not necessarily in a set order:
1. Jerusalem in My Heart - If He Dies, If If If If If If
2. Godspeed You! Black Emperor - 'Asunder, Sweet and Other Distress'
3. Ought - Sun Coming Down
4. Colin Stetson and Sarah Neufeld - Never Were the Way She Was
5. Eric Chenaux - Skullsplitter
6. Suuns and Jerusalem in My Heart - Suuns and Jerusalem in My Heart
7. The Cluttertones - Ordinary Joy
8. Vennart - The Demon Joke
9. Esmerine - Lost Voices
10. Pat Jordache - Steps
I want to give bigtime credit to Elder's Lore. I also am adoring the Jim O'Rourke album. I keep coming back to Godspeed's "Asunder, Sweet And Other Distress" though. However I know I'm forgetting a few...
"Just like Ulysses on the open sea, on an odyssey of self-discovery..." - Brendan Perry

"Trouble" is a fantastic song. I should check out that album.
Is this quiet, badass piece of work. Its something you listen while you drink your whiskey, thinking about that special one that got away, while the young piece awaits for you in bed.
1. Motherfucker Confetti (Sick Room Records)
The greatest active band on the planet.
2. Kowloon Walled City Grievances (Eroding Winds)
Slow, spacious and heavy
3. Dick Diver Melbourne, Florida (Trouble in Mind)
Should be #1, if I gave a shit about ranking
4. Protomartyr Agent Intellect (Hardley Art)
They're a real band now, and still rule.
5.Waxahatchee Ivy Trip (Merge)
There was a month were I listened to this every morning
6. Deaf Wish Pain (Sub Pop)
Best live show I saw this year, killer album.
7. Spray Paint Punters on a Barge (Homeless)
Always unreal live, but I never got the records. Until this one.
8. Kitchen's Floor Battle of Brisbane (Eternal Soundcheck)
Paid to import this one, waited a month, worth every second and penny.
9. Aye Aye S/T (Richie Record)
Crazy Horse, Earth and Bardo Pond rolled into one.
10. Damaged Bug Hot Cold Plumbs (Castle Face)
Dwyer and synths? Sign me up.
If were were going past ten, I'd have to include:
Royal Headache Pain
Future 56 Nights
Vince Staples Summertime 06
Salad Boys Metalmania
Beech Creeps S/T
Pile Youre Better Than This
Ryley Walker Primrose Green
