Im still hoping Han isnt dead. Its weird we didnt get a funeral or something...it was pretty anti climatic even if the whole scene was really pushed in that direction.

My only other criticism is that we spent 5 1/2 movies watching and being reminded that an apprentice needs to be trained in the force before doing anything meaningful, while here Rey seems to have figured things out quite well for herself, and did so in little less than an hour. So either she is a special brand of Jedi, or Obi Wan and Yoda were full of shit.

Unless she was under the training of Luke before Kylo Ren's attack on the academy.

I'm sure they'll reflect on him at the beginning of the next movie. That's about all they really need to do. It would be beyond terrible to have him survive this. They're trying to pass the baton to these new characters - who certainly showed in this movie that they're worthy successors.

That would be great. That scene of her being ripped away showed her as a really young girl though

Think back on the scene with Han in the falcon
'You knew Luke skywalker????'
'Yeah. I knew luke'
That puts that notion that she knew him to bed

Who was the old man at the beginning who had the map to Luke? In our post-viewing discussion we were calling him "Obi-Wan's brother."
Why did Yaz (was that her name) have the Lightsabre and who's sabre was it originally?
During the Rey flashback was she watching Ren kill other Jedi in training? And who are the guys with Ren?

Max Von shadow was the old man. He clearly knew leia at least in the past as he says 'she'll always be royalty to me' an he smiles. *think* his mission was to be around for Rey I think I'm not 100% (to give the map to Rey when the time came?)

Maz has Lukes original lightsaber which was anakins before him. How she came to have it??

The flashback could possibly be a flash forward

Think about how we see Luke sitting with R2.. Clearly a shot of the future as Luke left R2 behind and is only reunited with him at the end of the film so I'm thinking that force vision she had was flashback and flash forwards of what is to come

BTW, I'm seeing it again this afternoon with my kids. Is it weird that I'm more excited seeing it for the second time less than 24 hours after seeing it the first time?

Thanks for clearing some of that up Dime. I suspected it was Luke's only because it looked like it came from the 70's and because of the way Rey handed it back to him at the end. In which case it makes you wonder about the "Luke hand clone theory".

p.s. Don't forget, wasn't just Luke's, it was actually Anakin's saber.

I liked your idea of it being a flashforward, but I interpreted it as being the moment that Luke gave R2 the main piece of the map.
