We dont know that max Von sydows character wasn't watching over Rey as Obi wan did Luke, from a distance

I'm thinking he had the map in his keeping for when she came to him going my parents don't seem to be coming back do you know how I can find them? But the rise of the first order has forced leia to send Poe to get the map back cos they need to find Luke now, and leia knows Rey is Lukes daughter but doesn't tell her when they meet cos it's not her place to, she should hear that from Luke firsthand

Any thoughts?

This would also echo Luke and bens chat
Why didn't you tell me?

I can't decide if I want Rey to be an offspring of Luke and/or Han & Leia. I can see why they would, but her character could be fleshed out in interesting enough ways without it. There's definitely evidence for her being Luke's daughter or Han & Leia's, "from a certain point of view"

I dunno. The movie sorta steals from some Expanded Universe stuff.
In the EU it seems that Luke has a son named Ben Skywalker. Meanwhile there were three Solo kids and the son Jacen became a sith while Jaina is a Jedi who ultimately kills Jacen. Maybe they're just mixing it up and making Rey the Skywalker who will ultimately defeat or turn Ren/Ben.

In fact, the American presidency is a Chelsea away from being an allegory for Star Wars.

Very excited for my second viewing later this weekend.

Oscar Issacs was probably the best actor in the thing. Hoping for a lot more of him in VIII-IX

Only 1 or 2 shots where I thought it looked like BB-8 was CGI'd. Maybe they just did that good a job at fooling me. Interested to find out more about this now that I can dive in to the behind the scenes stuff I've avoided.

lol this movie was so much worse than I ever could have imagined. The safest, blandest, most braindead product possible. Ridley, Boyega, and especially Gleeson were all horrendous. Awful writing. Wonky pacing. Nothing but exposition punctuated by bangs and flashes, and it embraces the worst aspects of modern drama.

VERY easily the worst SW movie - as bad as the prequels were, at least they were imaginative and didn't just regurgitate the OT in the least exciting possible way. Corporate fanboy nostalgia has really hit a new low with this.

As dubious as his tastes are, his complaints mirror everything I dislike about modern lazy action movie storytelling. I don't know how to feel about his review.

i do wonder how much the rehashing of so many of the OT plot points will bother me as time goes on. right now, it only bothers me a little, with minimal impact on my enjoyment of the thing. we'll see if that changes.

I laughed a lot. Pretty strong unintentional comedy factor in this one. Gleeson's Nazi speech was an instant comedy classic. The stormtroopers throwing up a Nazi/Black Power salute at the end really sealed the deal.

How about the new one in scale next to the old one? The whole new death star seemed like something The Simpsons would have saterized.
