God I hate this argument. I like ESB and ROTJ more than The Godfather anyway.
but why do people criticize this movie for not being something that it never was or never intended to be? it's like saying south park's animations suck compared to a Pixar movie. yes there are plot holes. yes the dialogue can be corny. and yes the scenes can be predictable as all get out. but that's star wars.

btw, if you recall, I never saw the godfather
What? How am I expecting it to be something it's not? I just want it to be GOOD. The OT were GOOD MOVIES. This is lazy, pandering garbage.
it sounds like your biggest beef is that it's essentially ATH II. if that's it, I think it's a fair criticism. but any of the other criticisms could probably be said about the original trilogy.
No, that's far from the biggest criticism. It just isn't any good. The originals were not merely exposition dumps with disposable characters, bad performances, and dull action scenes. All nuance and atmosphere has been sacrificed. Passion has been replaced with laziness. Creativity and imagination have been co-opted by imitation and iconography porn. New ideas have been subsumed by fanboy genuflection.

But, hey, it's just a dumb sci-fi movie! Don't worry about it!
I don't really see the 3 mains as disposable characters or poorly acted at all. I felt the action scenes had significance and weight to them, especially the blaster fire and lightsaber fight at the end.
Yyyeeaahhh, I think it's safe to say that Rey isn't exactly Han Solo and Daisy Ridley isn't exactly Harrison Ford.

OF COURSE this is what it was. Disney is not going to let their big new corporate property flop. They were going to play it as safe as possible after the prequel debacle.

Who is? She's certainly surpassed Fisher and Hamill's perfomances from the OT.

Well it's obvious Disney wanted as many people on board but say what you will of them as an entity they don't sell shit. They'd want this to be the best it could be in order for it to be viable for their shareholders and to be able to stand behind it as a quality product.

Force awakens is just set up. All the familiar tropes and totems.

Does ANYONE know if they're giving Rian the same control/final say JJ had?
Let's hope he has hat sale final say and control

That didn't bug me. The jedi offspring see always fucking shit up.

Finn being lando's kid would be terrible.

I liked the new characters a lot. It was the old ones I didn't care for.

Gonna go ahead and disagree. And Hammill and Fisher already ain't distinguished thespians. Ridley is like a blend of Kiera Knightley and Emilia Clarke.

What makes you think they won't see the success of this one as a reason to play it just as safe for the next two?

"Best" and "safest bet" aren't the same thing.

And here we go already with the "the next one is where it gets REALLY good!"
