RM at its predictable best.

When do the cast here get a new script or story to work off?
(They've been doing this schtick since 2006!)

The casting call asked for girls or boys of any ethnicity
PC casting calls don't mean they ever intended on following through with casting a minority actor.

We still don't know who her mother is. For all we know, he could have shagged a wookiee.

Jesus Christ I just saw this, do I have to read 18 pages to get caught up? Can someone sum up reactions?

Here's what I hate about the poll option in both of our Force Awakens threads:

"The originals" are of varying quality. Asking if this one is as good or better or worse is stupid. Maybe it's as good or better or worse than one or two of them.

I'm gonna get caught up tonight.

Pros - cast was uniformly great. Lightsaber fights were intense, set pieces were exiting and tactile. I love Rens characterization as incomplete and petulant.

I have no problem with story holes (like where did snoke come from) - we have two more movies. Phasma was pointless - presumably becomes more important

I think the new hope similarities complaint is overblown. Similarities abound but these are elements that are part of the basic language of Star Wars and this movie needed to get everyone fluent again.

The only thing that I recall thinking was ridiculous was R2 waking up

Just agreeing. The originals are deeply flawed each of them but somehow get a pass cos the prequels were so bad.

I thought the callback references were nice winks that didn't overwhelm scenes

The last year. I was not excited prior to the end of the first teaser (the prequels made me like the OT less) then I was all in but I needed the movie to deliver and not just be a great set of evocative trailers. I could have crashed hard

Two critiques that feel more substantive than the new hope silliness.

1-Finn became socially adjusted too quickly for a guy who never even had a name. He needed to spend more of the movie with Rey drawing him out

2-Rey's force awakening came too quickly and I'm not sure I understand it

Don't worry, its safely outside of both the three originals and the three prequels. It was made for the middle. middle. middle. middle. The most middling movie ever created. In fact, if you ranked every movie ever made, this would sit squarely in the dead center.

I do love the pass the torch inversion that ends the movie as Rey literally hands it to Luke, who doesn't take it
