Just to give everyone a little visual, I want you all to know that this is the shirt I wore to the movie, and have been wearing the whole time I've been arguing with you:

The bottom line is I'm now totally reinvested in star wars in a way I haven't been since I was reading those Thrawn books like 20 years ago. Today was a good day.
Im lit up. I think the movie could also stand on its own in the sense that one wouldnt need to see the OT but it would create a desire to watch it.

It doesnt stand on its own as much as A New Hope, but that is understandable considering ANH was made not knowing if any others would be given the green light.

On that point strat I've been wondering the last few days how awesome it would be to be a little fella and have forc awakens as your first Star Wars film, and then be able o go back and watch the OT as bonus or unrequred reading, just for your own curiosity.

Like finding a new band and discovering they have like 20 years of material
And then getting to their middle period (neil young Landing on water, Backspacer etc/Phantom Menace) and wondering what the fuck happened :)

I can't take my girl to this, I decided. It'll be too intense.

I think you guys are forgetting the most important part. This movie passed the Bechdel-Wallace test!

I did get a smile out of the 'this will help make things right' or whatever the opening line of the film was. a nice little prequel dig.

Backspacer came on today randomly and was on shuffle. There's a fine well crafted bunch of songs there. Just didn't fit our expectations/demands.

If that was your first PJ record you'd be ok, it's very accessible.

Any under 6 or 7 wouldn't be ok with this. Too loud too intense. Let them get a bit older and be able to take it in knowing it's just a space adventure story.

That scene was diluted for me or maybe concentrated cos it was Ireland.

So very obviously Ireland

My friend was devastated that Han died.

Claudia: Do you think he's really dead?
Me: yes
Claudia: Well Luke survived that fall in Bespin
Me: yes, but he wasn't stabbed through the chest with a lightsaber
Claudia: Well maybe it missed his heart
Me: Luke was able to call for help with the force
Claudia: Well maybe someone found him
Me: Claudia, the planet blew up
Claudia: Disney will find a way to bring him back

They've been back twice and shot in two different seasons to get two differen climate types so hopefully it lingers there for a while to show time passing

But he went out a hero. Was great. Although I would have maybe liked to see more of the struggle between them. Over the next film at least.

Also, that whole scene with Han and the gangster he screwed over....that was kind of .....not interesting.
