Breaking box office records doesn't automatically mean a good movie though. See: Jurassic World

Avatar has not aged well due to its the characters and on the nose story but it was an amazing cinematic experience - up there with Star Wars, Jurassic park, Fellowship of the ring and The matrix in terms of transforming what special effects can do for a movie.

I can empathize with that feeling. I felt that way during Rio.

I agree with stip. Avatar is a decidedly mediocre film on its own merits, but seeing it in its original theatrical run in 3D was quite the experience.

Also, what's with all the Jurassic World hate? Sure, its not a bona fide classic like Spielberg's original but it stands up pretty well next to it and it's ten times better than the two sequels which followed the first film.

Jurassic World stank. And I spent 20 minutes of Avatar's second half in the hallway texting my wife because I was bored.

People probably would have rationalized themselves into liking it right after it came out.

"Yeah it has flaws and I could nitpick but I could do that to the originals too. It was just so great to see SW on the big screen again. And seeing my kids light up really says it all."

Avatar really is a one-watch-only kind of film.

I love Jurassic World
