I'm gonna disagree with the idea that these films are gonna lean on the past (you're all complaining about aesthetics that hadn't they been there, you would have also complained btw)

The final two are gonna be a a huge jump and disconnect on every level.

Particularly the last one. All the hardcore HATE whoever that director is, he's incapable of direction and a woman hater apparently who can't tell a story but he does block busters?

Saw Jurassic world. He did that. It was awful on every level apart from the male lead.

I never thought jedi could only sense other jedi. Also, its his father so im pretty certain feeling his presence isn't that difficult.

Kylo's ship looked cool, BB-8 was a new design (and a huge success), the various alien races were all new, and many of the vehicles (even the star destroyer equivalent) were new designs. They kept the big 3 but I wanted to see Xwings, Tie Fighters, and the falcon. They are foundational - the touchstones that tie me to this world.

I think BB8 was the closest thing to a new icon we'll get from this. From a Star Wars perspective, its a pretty poor rate. Even Phantom Menace had Maul and Amidala's costumes (and it probably would have had a lot more if it were any good.) It would have been nice to get a lot more "new" and a lot less "old".
